Got the Miche track group in today...
 

I have been bargain hunting for my next bike.. I already have a Miyata track frame from eBay. I found the Miche kit -- which comes with EVERYTHING except stem, handlebars, and saddle -- at chucksbikes.com for only $285. (That's seat post, headset, hubs, bottom bracket, cranks, pedals, cog, lockring, and chain.) I was going to salvage some stuff that I already have, but I couldn't pass that price up. It's not the best stuff out there, but it has a very nice look and will definately work for me.

I also have a Rolls saddle, and steel Nitto track bars. All I need is a Nitto stem and I am done. The funny thing is that it seems like when you are getting bike parts together you somehow get more stuff than you realize. When I am done with this I am going to have enough left overs to build my old Centurion road frame into a fix as well. Then I suppose I can show the Miyata off on weekends, use the Bianchi as a daily ride, and use the Centurion for my winter beater. :D

Oh, the only thing is I am trying to decide on a cool 32-hole rim. I was going to get the CXP-14s from cambriabike.com but they sold out. Anyone have any suggestions??

I have heard that the Miche Grouppo is compat with Miche ONLY. True or False?

Did they include the cool looking, machined, slotted seatpost?

165, what do you mean? It seems like standard stuff to me. I know the bottom bracket/crank is designed to work together but I also know they can be used with other pieces as well..

Also, I have CXP-21s on my Bianchi, so I want to try something different.. The MA3s might work if I can't find anything else.. I liked how the CXP-14s were kind of deep-v.. :mad: :)

Grapvined info...heard that Miche hubs were pretty finickey when it came to cogs. Who knows. Just trying to get the knowledge.:crash:

I have not heard that about Miche hubs, Chucksbikes has a great deal on that group I debated on buying it. And his service is excellent!! He also has some CXP 21 rims for $18 a piece.

Check out the Velocity Fusion or Deep-V rims they are nice aero rims to build up :)

nah, i have miche hubs and use standard euroasia imports cogs.

miche rear hub however, can only be used with miche lockring. you can't just throw a dura ace lockring on it.

i think there are other finicky things about miche. i think the bottom bracket spindle only fits miche cranks or something like that...

How often do you have to replace a lockring so no big deal there :) I wonder if it is more like the Campy lockring. For the price who can argue though :)

Yeah it comes with the lockring, so that's cool. It also came with a cog, and I didn't think about it at the time but it is their special splined cog or whatever where it pops off so you don't have to have a chainwhip.. I don't know if that is good or bad but I like checking out new stuff so I guess it's cool.

I believe the spline adapter screws off so you can use conventional cogs. Sheldon sells the spline adapters and cogs if one wishes to convert their existing hub of any make to that system.

jason, as far as rims, i'd look at velocity rims. their aero rim comes in all-black (which gives you a nice stealth look if you don't use brakes--no visible braking surface).
as pointed out by kev, they have some really nice deep rims as well, and some nice tubular rims.

I have the velocity Fusion on my one bike, black rim, black spokes and hub looks great :) I just recently got another wheelset with the Deep V rims on my fixed gear bike, have been working great! The Fusion is 25mm deep and Deep-V is 30mm if I remember correctly. Check out the reviews over at roadbikereview they almost always get a good write up.
