Mr. Tuffies?
 

Do they make these for road bikes? Does anyone here use them? I used to ride them when I BMXed, and I recently thought about them after getting my 5th flat in a few hundred miles. I'm running 23c Michelin Speediums and I don't know if I'm just pushing it running such skinny tires (I'm 195 lbs).

Yes. I run a red Mr. Tuffy in the front and it fits fine on my 23 Vittoria. I haven't encountered any really nasty situations yet and I have no empirical evidence to suggest they do much of anything. But they're cheap and they might work.

I've been using them for a couple of years and haven't had a flat in that time. you can save some money by getting non-kevlar tires and using tuffies instead....

I've got the Mr. Tuffy oranges behind my 700x23 Gatorskins (which have puncture resistant tubes behind that). Yeah, it's heavy... :lol:

yeah they work great against punctures... I've never gotten one while using them If you're worries about your weight that would be a pinch issue which they won't solve.

First of all though determine if your pinching or puncturing. If pinching put more air in your tires. If puncturing try to find the cause. If it really is stuff piercing your tire then get the strips.

:lol: That setup is on my commuter CX bike for going through the bad part of East LA. It's one of those areas you really really really don't want to flat while it's dark and there's shattered auto glass and other nasty crap on the street... The weight doesn't bother me anymore and when i get back on my other bikes i fly. :D

Why are you flatting so often?

I hate tuffies--- you can literally feel them. I have no idea how well they work. My only experience was with a wheelset that I purchased that already had them.

Tuffies ride like ass but they do work. I use them on my commuter.
