aside from the larger sizes, i noticed keirin frames were gradaully going down in price because lately there are more people selling them on ebay.

The Bridgestone went through the roof because it's
a 57, and that size is rare as hen's teeth when you're
talking about keirin frames. k3nho is right, as far as
I can tell, second-hand keirin frames are commanding
less than they were a year ago. I think that the supply
is outpacing the demand.

A keirin frame is still the best deal going for handmade
lugged steel. Good luck finding an Italian track frame
in same condition as that Bridgestone for $1000.

Its also one of the first nice weekends of the year, prices are always higher in the spring and lower in the winter. Buy a frame in November - February and you will get a much better deal than trying to snag a 57cm NJS frame in late April.

Agreed. For example, I eBayed a cross bike two weeks ago for half of what it will go for in the early fall. Usually I don't have the patience, though.

interesting. i never really thought of that, but it totally makes sense. . . then again, i live in southern CA

my velodrome has 2 swap meets a year. the one at the END of the track season (around nov) always has more and better track stuff. trackies dump their old track gear for cyclocross stuff!

my max bid on that Bridgestone was $700. I was willing to go a little higher, but ended up not checking the auction all day. I bugged out when I saw it went for over $1000. I figured 850 or so tops.

I originally go tthe frame planning to ride it, but there was a misunderstanding about the size and it was just a lil too small to make sense for me to ride. I wish I could find something like it my size...all of a sudden that wonky daccordi funny bike is looking like something I could purchase. someone stop me!

Why anyone would pay $1000 for a used keirin frame is beyond me. You can get several different keirin builders build you a custom frame for a hundred or so more.

they may be nicely made, but considering they are going for around the price of a new custom I fail to see how they are anything like a good deal, especially if you happen to be taller than the average Keirin racer.

Ah, the olden days of e-framebank.

My gargantuan, not dented 59cm Vivalo was all of $350 shipped from them about two years back. THAT was a good deal on a quality, lugged steel frame. And probably about what these frames are really "worth" in terms of being not especially fancy lugged bikes that have (presumably) seen race use. Some of these bikes are quite old as well - mine dates from 1996, like many of the frames on e-framebank at that time. I'm with many of the posters here in that for what keirin frames are going for now its sort of ridiculous not to eye up a custom from a keirin builder or otherwise.

**I should clarify... what some frames are going for. There are still some deals out there. $500 or so isn't bad for these things, I was more commenting on some of the super expensive examples**

However, for short guys like me, $450 for a hand-made frame
with a Sugino 75 bottom bracket, Hatta headset and B123s is a
steal. If I wanted to go custom, I would likely end up spending
three times that much. Probably two times with French or Italian.

Ditto. I paid $450 for my Panasonic Keirin frame. It came with a Hatta Swan headset and a Dura Ace 7600 bottom bracket. Subtract the price of those two components and the frame was a hell of a deal
