What are most builders prices for a basic track frame?

It varies pretty wildly, from $850 for a Jacob to $2000+ for a Moyer. It all depends on what you're looking for.

Our track is opening next april, I just want a nice riding track frame.. Something I can sit and drool over when I'm not riding it, priced near $1500 or so I guess.

there's a lot of US builders that are really great, but i don't know prices or wait times off the top of my head. johnny coast, circle A, moyer, ground up, don walker...

a good place to find people that do custom work is the North American Handbuilt Bike Show. there's some really gorgeous bikes there, but its also a step in the right direction to finding a framebuilder that can create what you need. its worth checking out.

....custom Panasonics are a good deal cheaper in Japan--$788. $500 is a pretty serious markup.
Bridgestone has semi-custom rigs for a bit cheaper with rad paint options.

Most of the old-dude-in-a-little-workshop frames are $950 and up...

Getting a Panasonic thru a shop like that in Japan is just $643usd.

Yeah, but how hard is it really for a non-speaker to order one of these bikes either through their website or other means? Factor in $100+ for shipping (I would guess), and other incidental costs along the way, along with the hassle of the ordering process, and that's not really too huge of a mark-up for Yellow Jersey. Not much more than is standard on a high-end bike, at least.

And i dont blame em for wanting to make some money. Thats what having a shop is all about.
More power to em' IMO.
It wouldnt be hard for someone in Japan to get frames from Panasonic and beat YellowJersey's price by a lot though.
If they were so inclined to do so.

the order form is just a big check list. once it is translated once it would be easy for non Japanese speakers to do it. I am not dissing Yellow ∆ersey for facilitating the flow of rad frames to the States, but their help will cost you

its a PDF, so you'd probably have to copy and paste piece by piece. there are lots and lots and lots of options.

Ira Ryan, Circle A, Ahearne, Bill Rider all come to mind as frame builders who will do a track frame (some with fork, some without) for < $1500. They're all lugged, custom steel frames, and at least the first three I know would be ready before April. There are at least a handful of others too.

hatta headset and bottom bracket included and cost about us$1200.

I dont know, for some reason I thought all of these prestegious bike builders were no longer building bikes.. let alone for attainable prices.

You can't get the panasonic shipped to the US, they will only do orders inside of Japan. Also, the YJ mark up is b/c the base price is higher since they are the only ones distributing in the US.

I have been down this path a year or so ago.

Do you want custom sizing? There a dozen companies in Portland that can do that. The most ****** of which is Vanilla, >$2000.

Here are some Portland based builders. I see lots of Vanilla bikes around here, surprising given their price. The word on the street is that they kick ass.
