I AM a B.D. shill

I didn't think it could happen to me.

But now I realize just what happened:

I was at the LBS and they wanted $500 for a KHS Flite, or $500 for a SE lager. I was tempted by the Lager..but after further research it looks as if they simply use Fuji frames as well.

So I turned to the dark side...

I bought a Windsor Hour for $300, saving $200, in essence this was the "payoff" for my future shilling, and pimping for BD bikes.

Now I have a bike that I love, plus $200 for buying diddly shiny trinkets and upgrades for my ride. Perhaps I could even use the $200 to get a tattoo or something? Or to buy coffee at the local cafe as I try and work on my ennui attitude?

Anyhow, BD owns my a**, at least until the $200 price differential credit runs out...

Bikes Direct: the one and only company that gets you branded as a shill if you post comments in their favor.

I should start a Bikes Direct forum or something.

Oh for sure. By buying a Bikes Direct bike, being pleased with it, and posting about it, I have forever branded myself as a Bikes Direct shill.

If people keep being this happy with them, the prices will go up. Please refrain from posting positive comments until I've bought mine (in a month or so).

I don't think that'll happen... if BD raises their prices, there's no reason to buy from them.

I mean, seriously, it's not like the "Mercier Kilo TT" is a selling point. $350 is a selling point, though. If they would have been asking $500 for it, I'da gone to an LBS and picked up a Madison or Langster or Pista or whatever.

just seems odd to mention bikesdirect so consistently, especially as a category of bikes. when most of your posts mention the same company, whether it's bikesdirect or not, it sounds shilly.

With all due respect, you are talking out of your a*s. I've had my Kilo TT for less then a month, but I've been a member here since September of '05. I guarantee you that by a *huge* margin nowhere near close to most of my posts mention Bikes Direct.

Lately, sure, because I had a good experience with them and I'm happy with the product, and it's human nature for one to want to talk about something that one is happy with.

But tally up my posts. I'll give you $100 if Bikes Direct is in most of my posts. You're far more likely to find infinitely more mentions of Trek, the Santa Ana River Trail, the Shimano Tiagra line of components, or any number of other terms.

The bottom line is that I'm a cyclist. I just bought a bicycle from Bikes Direct. I like the bike and the experience I had with with the company. I'm also going to talk about it. If that's not kosher with you, I invite you to not read my posts.

I think the best part is: how often do you hear the word "shill" used in ANY other context to describe ANY other person?

No sh*t... think of some of the IRO fanboys out there. Nothing against IRO, of course. But there can be 60,000 IRO posts made by the same guy and no one bats an eyelash. But mention Bikes Direct in more than one thread, and POW! Instant shill-hood.

there's a big difference between IRO, a bicycle manufacturer that is widely respected and appreciated for its products and business practices, and Bikes Direct, which is a shady sales organization that rebrands other manufacturers' bikes with the exploited names of bikes that used to be much more reputable, like mercier, windsor, and motobecane, and employs people to come on here to talk up their products without paying bikeforums for the advertising.

i have one the merciers, because it's a decent bike and it makes more sense to buy the $350 mercier than the $550 khs. all i was saying is that talking about your mercier (yay! merciers are awesome, LET'S TALK MERCIERS) is fundamentally different from talking about bikesdirect.
