p.s. would my Bowery be welcome? |
Just got an email inviting me. I will probably do it on my Sputnik (48 and either 16, 17, or 18, depending on how I am feeling that day). There are hardly any serious hills until the end (last 25 miles in the Bronx).

I've done it several times, onces on an old mountain bike, once on a rented road bike, once on a borrowed road bike. The first few hours are slow--lots of stop and go in Brooklyn--and the last twenty are the hilliest, as I said, in the Bronx. There are lots of stops and this is lots of food and overall it is great fun. And by the way, for those who aren't sure about a century, there are clearly marked ways to do fewer miles. There are people out there on every kind of bicycle. See you there.

good info thanks

I will be doing it with my commuter bike (48x18). I have done it a couple of times years ago with a road bike. There are hardly any hills and you can bail out just about anywhere you like. You are never too far from a subway station.

Good points. For those used to riding real hills, there are no hills. And for those who ride only flats on old railroad lines or along the shore, you'll find a few challenging bumps in the last twenty or so miles. It is a fun ride, and as brainsan put it so nicely, you are never far from a subway ride home.
