Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Got my IRO Marv V set up

Well. I just took my first ride on my assembled IRO fixie. I haven't been on a bike much since I toured ireland two summers ago and for the last couple years I've been fiending to try a fixed setup. I'm really enjoying it so far. I've got a 59cm Marv V running 46x18 on 23c's.

It's all black which is sort of cheesy to me, but it's growing on me (I should hope so since I picked the parts). Well, all black except the black/white/purple bar tape that I ended up getting from nashbar on accident. I'm not sure if I was just really tired when I clicked the box or if they screwed it up, but it's on those $15 nashbar horns now and that's that; I'm wayyy too lazy to retape them anytime soon.
Which reminds me. How the eff does anyone ride any distance without bartape? I use the cork stuff, but I did a few test rides sans tape to check my setup; my hands were freakin killing me. Cork tape is like a nice fluffy pillow.

I went fixed mostly to get into better shape. I grannied down a lot more than I should have in ireland. Not that there's anything particularly wrong with that, but I could have pushed myself a lot more and been in much better shape otherwise. My touring bike was a convert mountain bike so I could go waayyyy down.

I'll likely use it to get around in my off time. It'd be virtually impossible for me to commute because I'm an independent construction contractor and believe it or not, you can only fit two sheets of drywall tops on a fixie.

Thats about it. Probably more than anyone with sense would read

The partly cut steerer tube isn't for style points. I can't find my hacksaw.

all black is cheezy?

you're a disgrace to metal, ninjas, and pirates everywhere.

and that's like, every type of person right there.

I'll get that mess up soon. I took off on an unexpected out-of-state trip not an hour after I posted this.

Pirates? There's a fair distinction between pirates and ninjas.

I dig the all black, but I'd sooner highlight some of it with a few more bits of silver.

It rides though. All that matters.

I like all black bikes. The stealthy factor is cool. This is pretty much exactly what I was going to buy before I settled on the Pista because I could test ride it.

What a nice bike. I think if you are leaving the steerer tube not cut you should cap it off so you don't get hurt.

I just got an all black Jamie Roy with drop bars. I too dig the all-blackness. Along with the fixed gear, it sorta turns you into a biker-ninja.

No but seriously it does help when I have to ride through rough neighborhoods on my way home from work.
