Removing a track cog
 

I can't seem to get my track cog off of my rear wheel. I removed the lockring, but the cog won't budge. The cog uses a normal thread direction, right? (opposite the lockring).

Any tips for freeing this thing?

check out the DIY thread and look for rotafixing,... basically reverse the process to remove.

Post Script,... We tighten the hell out of them at the shop,... so it should be pretty tough :)

I once stood on my chain whip to remove a cog. Be careful with that method though...

Some on this board claim that they can remove that cog simply by back-pedalling...:p :D

Not so far-fetched. You could actually remove the lockring and stomp on the pedal with the bike backed up against a wall. It should loosen up.

maybe try grabbing the chain whip with your teeth.

So try reverse rotafix, skidding without a locking, bigger chainwhip, bench vise, wall.... methods and one of them will work for you.

I'd try putting a cheater bar (aka big ass pipe) on the end of your chain whip, for more leverage.

My LBS got it off with two guys and a cheater bar..

he removed the cog 3.5 years ago...

you can take the lock ring off, Put the rim back on
chain on
tighten axle nuts

and lightly jump up and down with all your weight on the pedals.

yea, Mikeetow is pretty smart!

depending on what metal the cog is and your hub, you could try heating the sucker up with a propane torch and taking it off.
