stolen bike

Hey,

My fixie was stolen last night. My kryptonite chain was cut. I suspect it was somebody who lives nearby because none of the other bikes on the street were taken (and there were quite a few worth taking).

I'll check ebay and craigslist and keep an eye out for it. Is there anything else clever I could do? I think if I left a note on the spot where it was stolen, the thief would read it, but I'm not sure how to use that to my advantage.

Sorry this happened to you. It must be a total bummer. Do you have pictures of your bike? Do you have a serial number? Have you contacted the police, your insurance company, and Kryptonite?

leaving a note can't do much. i doubt the thief cares about what you have to say.

if you have any serial numbers or anything, give them to your PD. they probably won't do much but yeah.

ANY chain can be cut. The new trick theives are using (at least here in vancouver) is a Cordless Dremel with a thin cutoff disc spinning at 45,000 rpm. Cuts thru 1/2" thick grade 80 chain in seconds, never mind krypto chains.

OP sorry to hear about your bike. start making the rounds of the pawnshops and other areas where bikes are sold.

It wasn't the big thick kryptonite chain (fugetaboutit?), it was the slightly smaller one with the circular lock. One link was on the ground. It looks like they used big bolt cutters or something. Strangely they took the chain with them. I will definitely be getting a bigger lock.

I'll check pawnshops. Where else do stolen bikes go?

If you told us where you lived and gave a description/photo of the bike, we could always help look for it. Just throwing that out there.

It is a 2005 Bianchi Pista, completely wrapped in black electrical tape. Black nashbar bullhorns, IRO cranks and rear wheel, and no-name front wheel. It had a Shimano 105 front brake and a worn black Specialized seat, and a Flamingo fender.

It was stolen in the Back Bay area of Boston (boylston st.) If you hear anything let me know!

Thanks.
