"New"? How so? There was a "Supercorsa Pista" just 2 years ago, all black. Simply changing the tubing doesn't make it a new frame in my book. I'd bet the geometry, lugs, track ends are identical to the Olympic, the black Supercorsa Pista, and whatever other name they've attached to their steel track frame since 1978.

the columbus spirit **** is quite nice. it can definitely command a decent price.

Spirit is much nicer than either of those. What do these cost? And where are they made?

Spirit is nice BUT... 0.38 mm wall thickness in some places makes me nervous. That's a little too thin, I feel. I wonder if Columbus makes a tubeset from the same alloy, but a bit heavier and thicker. I'd ride that.

the strength/weight ratio of the niobium steels are supposed to be extremely good and cannot be compared to other steel alloys without qualification. that said, i think spirit has a 200lbs recommended rider limit for most uses. i wouldn't hesitate to ride it, but i'm ~145 after eating a ****ton of food.

Indeed, they do. Cinelli track bikes have always had fastback seatstays though, at least they did up until the 90's or so.

Life.

Right. Now I don't doubt if I only rode that bike/frame without ever applying any stress perpendicular to the tubing surface, that it would last a lifetime. But I am not sure that such stress won't be applied in one way or the other. Some very thin tubesets have been buckled in by a strong pressure with a thumb. I did not see this happen, personally, but I assume it's possible, as some tubesets are only 0.55 mm thick (and this one is even thinner), and as such, don't pose much perpendicular stiffness. I am not going to sacrifice my Kona Explosif frame to test the assumption.

If they did have the pista you would see that it costs more. Every one is quoting prices for this frame but I can't see any evidence.

I found one shop that has a quote online:
http://www.maidirebike.com/IEP000BICI198.asp

1249 EUR which is US$ 1853.79 or 200,751 Yen

This is a European shop, and anything sold in Europe is more expensive than in the USA. But not compared to Japan, apparently.

EDIT: that's the only shop I could find with a quote. I found, however, this auction. That's a SLX Supercorsa Pista. In very nice shape, I should add, and I like that the chainstays are not chromed.

MSRP on these will be $1499.

They aren't in the US yet. Should have them in early 2008.
They are coming into the states only in Black for now.

My wife rides a Cinelli Spirit Carbon road bike and absolutely loves it. The Spirit Carbon wasn't imported into the states because roadies in the US aren't too interested in high-end steel.

I think the availability of the Pista slows between generations of the bike. This year I could only get the limited edition remnants that were just the last of the Italian stock. Seems they clean house of their bikes, then come out with a new. I'm not sure on that, and that may be only here in the states.
