Threaded to Threadless adapter?

Anyone have any experience with these? (Link) I'm thinking of getting one since there seem to be many more openface threadless stems then openface quill stems.

thanks

Good solid adapters.....absolutely nothing wrong with using them.

catlike 09-02-07 11:31 AM

i use one, no troubles what so ever

MrCjolsen 09-02-07 12:22 PM

You might be able to find one cheaper than $11 plus $9 shipping.

I use one and it works great. You can put threadless headset spacers on them to improve the look.

same as everyone, no problems, good buy. check nashbar and performance

yup.. used one for a bit, was successful in bridging the gap between handlebars and bike.

the thing is, I feel like it has negative characteristics from both types of stems.... doesnt look as good as a quill stem, not as stiff as threadless, as heavy as both put together.. etc

buut, cheaper than a new fork + headset.

Thanks everyone, I assumed that there was nothing wrong with using one, but I thought better safe then sorry

1) Weight, yawn - what are you a weight weenie?
2) How is aesthetics negative from both types of stems?
3) Stiffness, yawn

Nitto makes a very nice one, shame it's mostly covered up when in use.

Glad i came across this thread. I almost picked up one of these earlier this week to put a cinelli alter stem on bike. I just assumed they were junk cause i'd never heard a word spoken about them.

matic 10-11-07 12:34 PM

newbie question. Do I need a threadless headset to use this? Basically I want to get a threadless stem to use with my stock threaded headset and fork.

time bandit 10-11-07 12:38 PM

no, matic, this thing goes into your threaded headset so you can hook up a threadless style stem to it.

so, basically, this is what (all) you need to do what you're saying. good luck.

So I have a really rad track fork I want to put on my gf bike. The thing is she is riding a 51cm frame and the fork is for a 46 cm frame.

Could I get this adapter, use a 1 inch threadless headset, no spacers and a 1 inch threadless stem?

Basically I want to use this adapter as more of a steer tube extender. Anyone see this done or done it themselves?

There are actual steerer tube extenders that work in the same way.

the cinelli is a 1" threadless stem, a converter won't work.

I'm pretty sure they make 1" converters as well....for 1" threadless stems.
In fact, aren't most converters designed for 1" stems and you have to use a shim if using a 1 & 1/8" stem...?

marqueemoon 10-12-07 08:31 PM

...or get a Salsa SUL quill stem

CORRECTOMUNDO!!!

you know i have always wanted to say that, but yes alot of the adapters are 1 inch and come with a shim. check nashbars site for an example. i have a 1 inch stem adapter with a 1-1/8 stem with a shim tucked in there. all together it bolted up tighter than a virgin on prom night

I believe he was talking about a quill adapter, not a stem shim.

BRANDUNE 10-12-07 11:47 PM

Converter=adapter, I have used a 1" to 1" adapter with a Cinelli Alter and it was fresher than a virgin in a fridgerator(that ones for you court)
