Nottingham Raleigh conversion
Anybody convert an old English 3 speed to fixed? Bombing around Boston has battered my wheels to broken, warped, ovals. I have a set of 700c wheels and a brake that fits well, but the crank seems to require some finagling. Am I in the process of making a chain line disaster?

Is this a Sports/Superbe/Robin Hood/Hercules type three speed? I think your first problem will be that 700c wheels will not fit onto a frame designed for 26" wheels. Second, Raleigh had its own unique size and threading for their bottom brackets among other things, which makes converting really difficult.
The really old ones (pre-1960ish) sometimes came with a flip/flop hub from the factory. |
The 700c wheels should fit. They have a lot of clearance on those frames so you should have no problems. I'd keep the stock cranks since the bottom bracket is probialy Raleigh threaded.
