Diy hanging bike rack?

My gf and i will be moving in together in Dec., which means we'll have 5-6 bikes to store. I've seen plans in the past for hanging bike stands from wood (usually 2x4s and rubber coated hooks which suspend the bikes two feet from the ground), but can't seem to find any online for some reason.
Does anyone have a link to some plans, or maybe some tips on how to design my own? I'm going to intergrate some other elements (work area, storage for tools/parts, rack for guests, etc) too.
We'll have tons of living area, so space isn't an issue-- i'm more concerned with avoiding the bike clutter that occurs when you have too much bike stuff in one place.

Put hooks in the studs in your walls.

Do you want your bikes hung vertically or horizontally?

i think it would be cool to have a few slots for those plastic slide out drawers in the bottom... i think if you had drawers, a shelf or two, and hooks lining the top to hang bikes from on the front that would be cool. of course, if you're using this as a work bench too you'd have to take every bike off the front to work, which wouldn't be too cool. you could hang three off each side, if you made it deep enough.

I have my two bikes hanging from the ceiling by hooks bought from hardware store. I located the rafters with a stud finder, measured the distance from axle to axle. transferred measurments to the ceiling and screwed in the hooks. I have shelves under the bikes, there easy to get on/off and take up zero floor space.

wall, hook, hang bikes vertical. just screw the hooks into the studs and you are good to go

this is in the middle of a re-organization but you can get the idea:

No, i need a free-standing structure. Drilling beams into the walls won't be an option in this case, unfortunately. Neither will hanging from the ceiling (they'll be waaaay too high)...

I saw something once, kinda a wooden frame with hooks supporting a few bikes. The bikes were hanging vertically from their front wheels... I have an idea of how to build it, but i'm not 100% sure of the most efficient way to do it. My idea, when on paper, seems a bit overbuilt, but it'll definitely work. I'd like to avoid wasting wood, but am not a carpenter and have no idea how to replace four support posts with two and a few angles (for instance). The plans i remember seeing are way more elegant than what i've come up with.
Regardless, whatever i build, i'll be integrating this floor rack, a few freestanding shelves, etc.
I'll keep looking; if i don't find anything, i'll try to refine my "design" and see if i can improve it.

I put my bike on a cheap stand made to hold two guitars. I fold in the bottom parts that would hold the guitars' bodies out, and the top tube sits securely in the "forks" of the stand that are angled up to hold the guitar's neck. I just taped the spots where the bike touches the stand to make sure it can't scratch. It's so quick to lift and go, or to put back on, and I can do minor work while it's on the stand too.

PVC and pipe insulation. i don't have pics or plans but its easy to think it out. you've got a base made of pipe and 3 way connectors, and padded arms made of pipe and t-fittings. i'm sure you could even make one of those that secures itself by friction to the ceiling too but that is too risky for me...
