Cut off dickies

So I have seen people here say they cut there dickies off after the knee when they ride, but here in Richmond it is apparently the cool thing to cut them well above the knee. So being as I am bored and in Econ. I figured I would start a poll...yea it's lame I know.

peabodypride 09-07-07 12:19 PM

Roughly 2" below the knee for me. I wish I could sew the ends though because they get all tattered each time they're washed.

blickblocks 09-07-07 12:20 PM

I dunno about Dickies specifically but it's annoying when your shorts catch wind like a parachute...better below the knee or short-shorts.

Edit-Anyone like using drawstring pants? My girlfriend's mom lent me some patterns and I've been procrastinating on making a pair. They have drawstring in the leg hem to keep them under control.

Damn we have a lot of richmonders on BFSSFG. There's a kid in my poli theory class that has them cut so high you can almost see his junk. And somehow he actually pulls it off.

ewww, cutoff dickies, gross. I have a pair of riding shorts from Rapha. jk
I have just an old pair of thrift store pants cut off right below the need when standing, but they kinda creep above the knee when riding.

nakedsushi 09-07-07 12:42 PM

Drawstring pants? Like, at the waist, or at the legs? I'd be scared of the string catching on the chain if they were at the legs.

Yeah, since there can only be an excessively long string hanging from the leg...

geoGraphicFTD 09-07-07 12:49 PM

drawstring pants are the awesome.
I have several pairs with drawstrings on the legs. when I'm walking around I usually leave them untied. when I ride I tie them into tight bows w/o much string hanging off.

i wear dickies shorts thus avoiding the need to cut my dickies. i may try the pants cut off, below the knee, as it gets cooler.

i just like talking about my dickies.

sp00ki 09-07-07 12:55 PM

is it just me, or is this poll into other gentlemen?

piwonka 09-07-07 12:55 PM

i cut pant off far above the knee...like three four or five inches above.
old stretchy pants are good. old man pants. sansabelt, wranglers, dress slacks as long as they stretch and have a pretty tight crotch in them. comfy.

I found new Dickies shorts at JC penny on sale for $7 each last weekend. They are below the knee, but shorter than I prefer. still for $7 i grabbed 2 pair as they cost less than the cost of having a pair of pants hemmed. I might go back and get a third pair. they have em in 3 colors.

I'm into other gents, but as for the poll I could take it or leave it. Dickies are good, cut or uncut.

ggallin 09-07-07 01:06 PM

actual dickies shorts legs are so wide, its like youre wearing cut off jncos. the pants have slimmer legs and make the best manpris or cutoffs or whatever you feel like wearing.

Gambutrol 09-07-07 01:10 PM

I dunno about Dickies, I usually just get whatever kind of dress pants I can find that fit me at a thrift store. Chop them a few inches below the knee (so that I don't get the parachute effect when my legs are bent on the bike) and sew them up a bit over a few episodes of star trek (no sewing machine!) to prevent tattering. Much cheaper than some of those $120 models they try to make you pay for online.

Retem 09-07-07 01:12 PM

I cut em off below the knee but only after I get em caught in my chain
I really prefer bdu cargo shorts they are the best double layered ass and sturdy I wear them and tights all winter and them by themselves all summer

TehK 09-07-07 01:15 PM

+1 on the BDU shorts. Do you buy shorts or do you cut pants?

dcdude 09-07-07 01:16 PM

right at the kneecap, they rise a little bit above when riding, but look fine when walking

nick666uenther 09-07-07 01:22 PM

Back in first grade, everyone used to make fun of the kids whose shorts went past their knees. One day, i had tried to leave our apartment with the same shorts that I had been wearing for the past week. My mother saw them, told me they were dirty, and forced me to change into the only other shorts I had. They were too big, and went a ways past my knees. I tried my best to hike them up high enough that the ends rested right at the tops of my kneecaps, but they wouldn't stay. At recess, all of the other kids got on the jungle gym and proclaimed that only those who were wearing shorts could get on. I tried hiking my shorts up again, but it was no use. I was immediately called out on my "pants" and was forbidden from playing on the jungle gym until I could find some real shorts. I sat on the bench on the side of the playground for the rest of recess and when I got home, i cut my "pants" into shorts with my pocket knife and never looked back. Wear real shorts.

BDU's cut off mid-shin FTW.

curiousincident 09-07-07 01:27 PM

Just above the knee, my dickie cutoffs are thin enough in the thigh to avoid the parachute effect. I prefer just rolling up pants though, but it's been effing hot lately.

Oh, I thought this thread was going to be about Lorena Bobbitt.

I just buy the shorts they're the same price as the pants at the surplus joint I get mine from

Toughskin jeans from Sears. Next best thing to Kevlar pants.
