Tools/Cone wrench question
Would anyone care to offer up some advise as to which cone wrench sizes I should keep on hand? I normally find that I use just the 13mm and 15mm for most of my hub repair work on the bikes I own. I keep two of each and one needs replaced. Thought I would stop by the LBS on the way home and pick up a replacement. However, I have a decent place to work (tools, stands, etc) at my place and I offer it up for anyone to use if they drop by. Any other sizes that come to mind? Do you use them for anything else (i.e..I think it's the 13's that I use on brakes) I'd be interested in what specialty tools you find are major helpful to have on hand.

a crank puller is definitly a very useful tool to have around. you won't realize how bad you need one until you don't have it.

Is this meant to be asked in the context of ss/fg riders? Otherwise, I would take this question over to the mechanics forum for probably a better set of responses.

Yes...Primarily fg/ss.

Formula hubs, which are pretty common on entry level track bikes, use 15mm cones and 17mm locknuts.

A good HD bench vise is always handy.

You need a 17mm cone wrench to deal with 120mm spaced formulas. Beyond that, I keep 2 sets of the 13/14 and 15/16 double ended wrenches around. I think most brakes with wrench flats use a 14, at least that's what's on the other side of the park wrench with the spring centering tool (= bestest tool evar, BTW)

Someone please bring back the ****ing 13/15. The double ended wrench sizes we have now make no ****ing sense at all.
