Dream Parts list.

I'm looking for some advise.

Question: I've got an 07 Pista 53cm frame. Now what parts do you guys recomend for this build. It's gonna be a daily rider in the city, no hills. I need seat post, seat, cranks, BB, wheels, stem, headset, and bullhorn bars. I'm looking at Thomson stem and seatpost, Nitto bars, Fizik seat, Chris King heatset. But I wanted to check with the experts. Not sure what cranks, cogs and wheels to use though.

Thanks,

Hanjin

Check out my sig for details...

I've upgraded the post, saddle, bars, stem, fork, pedals, cog and added a brake. But I feel no compelling reason to get new cranks, headset or hubs. The stock equipment is fine, if not a bit common (if that sort of thing matters to you.)

aerospokes or hed3 up front, 17" risers, phil laced to rainbow deepv with 10,000 spoke cards so it inturn makes the wheel a disc, campy njs everything.
jk
pick parts that you like. its not what others like

If you need it, different stem and/or bars. Eggbeaters. CK rasta headset just for fun. Don't really care enough to replace other stuff before it breaks.

Rode stock BB,cranks on my '05 for many moons, when I pulled them in favor of upgrade parts the BB was still smooth as silk. Still ride stock wheels. How about you ride a bit before switching stuff out. Figure out your fit before buying things like stem, seat post and bars.

And fork. I got them for free, I'm trying to build up a decent fixed gear. I've got a bit of cash set aside for this project, I'm just looking for some components to use. I've never built a fixie.

The stock fork sucks when used with brakes, if you are planning to use them.

How much are you planning to spend? I have about $1200 into my bike including the original cost of the bike, so you should be able to build something great for under $1000.

Straws 09-11-07 01:55 PM

How did you get an 07 pista frame for free?

goodall 09-11-07 02:11 PM

Dura Ace drive train. Dura Ace hubs or Mavic Ellipse wheels (clincher, sealed bearings, although they only come in black which will look weird on a Pista).

dookie 09-11-07 02:18 PM

you don't want 'dream' parts for a city bike, practical is more like it...but hey, that's just me.

Now think this way...

Its a pista... is it really worth the high end components??? HAH NO!

Maybe just keep it subtle since its your commuter.. But its your pista ....

It could be the sickest bike with a pista frame... haha or it could be a nice quality pista...

Im the type to build up Highend track bikes with high end components....

goodall 09-11-07 02:34 PM

I almost forgot, Easton track bars. A mere $350. I agree this is totally silly for commuting, but you did say dream bike.

There will be no brakes on this one. I've got about 1200.00 to spend on the build.

a good friend of mine found some nice bikes at a local storage unit auction. I got the Pista frame and fork, and an old giant Cadex crabon fiber road bike. He owed me for when I helped him find his lost dog. I guess the title is a bit misleading I was going to go all out on this frame but from what I see now Bianchi not what they used to be. Too bad there wasen't a litespeed frame in there.

nateintokyo 09-11-07 08:04 PM

You could always build up the Pista with parts you like/dream of, and eventually swap out the frame for a new one some where down the line.

Build a bike you'll like and want to ride!

sell the pista and buy a real frameset.

bonechilling 09-11-07 08:29 PM

Is this guy trolling? This thread is absurdly great.

TimArchy 09-11-07 08:38 PM

Best wheelset for durability and performance in my opinion would be phils laced to open pros, 36 hole. Good weight, very durable, also the bling factor. The set will run about $6-700.
EAI cogs work well.
IRD technoglide headset if you can't afford a CK.
Some cool old track crank off ebay or miche or stronglight or something.

Think of stuff you can move to a new (nicer) frame when you get one.

opinions about pista framesets aside, the thomson elite (original) is one of the few threadless stems that doesn't have exposed bolts on your side of the steerer, which is something i appreciate from a practical and aesthetic end. 75 cranks are comparable quality to DA and cheaper; spend more than you think you should on a quality track cog and lockring (DA or better); everything else is your personal preference and you will likely end up changing things like your saddle and bars.

Igneous Faction 09-11-07 10:39 PM

1. Full Suntour Superbe laced to Araya Gold's.

2. Full Mavic! Love that starfish crank!

3. Full Gipiemme!

4. Full Zeus!

Anything uncommon basically.
