Custom dust caps for MKS GR-9 pedals :)
wasnt quite feeling the cheapo look/feel of the dark gray plastic dust caps on my GR9s, so i figured id give it a silver coat of paint. upon closer inspection, i noticed the diameter of the cap looked oddly familiar. reached into my wallet, and sure enough...its exactly the correct size for a nickel to fit super snug as though it were supposed to be there, haha. anyhow, used a corkscrew to pop the plastic caps out, and stuck the nickels in. it clears the inner axle with room to spare, and they come out with relative ease for future bearing greasing. im stoked. plus i avoided a sure-to-be-lame mini paint job :)
pardon the blurry shots: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...s/100_0049.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...s/100_0051.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...s/100_0053.jpg |
that is pretty cool.. and now they're worth more too :D

that makes my day
|
Damn. I wonder if that would work on sylvans, cuz my LBS charges $5.99 for a single replacement dust cap. (Me:"what? that's a quarter of the price of completely new pedals!")
|
How do you get the metal dust caps off with out ****ting up the grooves on the metal?
|
Pedal strike takes 'em right off.
|
nice. i just got some new gr9's myself. i hope they stay well enough.
|
this guy just started a new trend.

they stay on even more securely than the factory caps. that good'ol metal on metal snug. comparatively, i'd say the amount of force need to remove the plastic caps via a pointed tool is about the same as popping the cap off of a domestic bottle of beer with a bic lighter. whereas, removing the nickel takes more than 3x the exerted force i.e. popping an imported beer cap with the tip of a car key. ...my attempt at putting it into universally recognizable terms. now if you'd excuse me *burp* :) |
that's pretty freaking cool.
|
Well done, sir.

This definately won't work with older style MKS pedals with the domed caps..

I know this is off topic but, are those pedals double strap compatible

I've seen longer screws used to hold the strap but that seems really sketch. Opinions?

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ght=new+pedals Scroll down a bit...unless you're lazy. Then the answer is, "Yes, with a little finessing." |
