Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Good sneakers for riding?

Here's a weird question. Anyone know which style of Nike's the guy in the khakis is wearing in this video:

http://www.vimeo.com/902661

Here's a crappy screenshot:

It doesn't look like a Nike Dunk lowtop. I can't tell. But I like it and getting a little bored with Tigers.

This was really hipstery, wasn't it?

Is it just me, or has the thread completely missed the Converse Chuck Taylors?
High top Chucks are my favorite to wear. But I also own faux-Chucks... aka "f***s".

He's wearing the nike tennis classic. Nike SB makes a version of it as well, with the zoom-air footbed and hipster street cred, no less.

Has anyone in this thread mentioned hard soled vintage style shoes with the cleat designed for cages?

I'm having a hell of a time finding one in my size that isn't $150+

I have these on the way from a LBS. Really stiff, made for cycling too.

More about them here http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCEqP...jsp?spid=38097

Hate to burst your bubble, but these look like they weren't made for cycling and probably offer none of the benefits of cycle touring sneakers. Can you honestly tell me that they are much stiffer than regular sneakers?

I just read the description on the Specialized website and was about to post the same thing--these really don't sound like they are made for cycling. I think they are just regular sneakers. I'd be interested to hear if that is indeed the case.

These look pretty slick and have a nice retro look to them.....and they are black so they wont get dirty. Not sure on the sole stiffness though.

Puma Supersqualo (they also come in Red and Green or Just Red)

These keep the water out, stop your pants leg from getting caught in the chain and camo for street cred.

plus they have a strap so they can double as your handbag when you're not on the bike.

Yes they are stiffer than regular sneakers. I'll buy another pair when needed if they keep making them.
