i'm a big fan of wearing two hoodies. i got these bdg pullover hoodies for $20 a piece, and for most of the winter, they are worn together. it's wonderful.

i'm looking to make my own, though. lined and heavy-duty. hopefully it'll happen.

mathletics 09-16-07 02:17 PM

Go to army-navy surplus and get a Dickies lined hoodie for $20. They come in a bunch of colors and are lined with thermal waffle knit.

666pack 09-16-07 02:23 PM

insulated hoodies are great. but i'm really tall and lanky and those hoodies tend to be made for shorter, stouter people.

with that said, i wear a insulated hoodie in the real cold.

This is by far the coolest hoodie of all time. It should be called the hoodie to end all hoodies because it's so cool. I hear it even filters fumes for all that wicked urban riding you do.

okay... so the king kog hoodie is pretty obvious what its special design features are... and it's almost 70 dollars.

and dickies thermal insulated are great too... and priced better...

but what does the trackstar jawn have over any other hoodie? i really want one that comes down farther in the back than it does in the front to keep my ass warm, like most cycling tops.

trackstar's hoodie has the pockets on the back like a jersey. the sleeves are cut a little bit longer and i think the back might also come down a little further.

Those are pretty cool. A question: Made in USA, or china? Don't really care, just interested.

It's a bit emo/hipster. And expensive.

Straws 09-16-07 03:40 PM

a bit stupid. Get a dickies hoodie and a bandanna. done.

willypilgrim 09-16-07 03:50 PM

I just ordered the trackstar hoodie, so i'll try and drop a note in here about it when i get it.

Suttree 09-16-07 04:09 PM

giant robot and super 7 hoodies--thick, good graphics not stupid expensive

Gordiep 09-16-07 04:10 PM

Carhartt hooded sweatshirts are the yardstick by which all other hoodies are measured. Dickies doesn't even come close, quality-wise. I wore a Carhartt for 3 seasons while framing houses on the plains around the Wyoming/Colorado border, and the thing looked hardly used. That's a bitterly cold region, and the sweatshirt took abuse all day long. The zipper failed in the 4th year, but the fabric is in great condition.

They're absolutely worth the money.

willypilgrim 09-16-07 04:31 PM

So the carhartt held up alright?

Did it get those little fuzzy balls all over it? I seem to remember my buddies carhartt looking all haggard but i could be wrong.

They fit really huge though don't they?

Carhartt makes several different model hoodies...the one I had was bombproof, and never pilled. The fabric was like normal 'sweats' material, but much denser and harder. The inside was some kind of tough waffle-weave stuff.

I dunno if they run large...mine was a little oversize, but most guys who work in the cold do that so they can layer underneath, and so the sweatshirt will fit over toolbags and such.

Unless they've changed the quality (doubtful), or discontinued that model (possible), it should hold up to anything. They do make some lighter-weight ones, similar to the Russel Athletic types. Those aren't so hot.

willypilgrim 09-16-07 04:39 PM

Makes sense that his would have been a lighter-weight one, department store style rather than surplus store or 'outerwear' style.

I totally understand why they have the fitment they do, but i can't stand hoodies that are short and wide. This is what i'm hoping the trackstar hoodie will remedy for me, it appears to be slim and long.

a-ha. that's very cool then. i don't think i'd buy it without wearing it first but if that's the case it's not an outrageous price.

willypilgrim 09-16-07 04:43 PM

Supposedly it has a longer torso and sleeves, which would be great.

My Carhartt was pretty long, and the sleeves were ample...but as you say, it was kind of baggy. Not terrible, though.

willypilgrim 09-16-07 04:53 PM

Sounds like maybe a good additional layer as opposed to a coat or something of that nature maybe.

But yeah, I'm funny about bagginess sometimes.

Would be cool if someone just modified their hoodie like that, otherwise it just looks a tad poseur.

It's only like 60 degrees outside, and yet I can't ride from my apt to anywhere without tearing up from the cold air...think it's stupid to break out the ski goggles already?

Speaking of the yardstick, a friend of mine is a physicist at the South pole. I was looking at some pictures of her time there, and there's one where she's all dressed and getting ready to step outside. It's in the final chamber, before you set foot on Antarctic soil, and behind her there's a sign that reads "Zip Up Your Carhartt," the implication being that no one at the South pole would have anything but Carhartt.

VAwitt 09-16-07 05:17 PM

i should be getting my trackstar hoody in tomorrow
so ill let you guys know its pros and cons, maybe post some flicks too ;)

but trackstar called me twice to make sure i ordered the right size, they run real small apparently

redxj 09-16-07 05:31 PM

+1 on the Carhartt hoodies. I wore one the past couple of winters of work and they held up great and are warm. The only problems I had with mine was getting the pockets caught on stuff and riping the stitching of the pockets out.
