Does anyone know much about these frames? I'm tempted by this ad on craigslist (it's the right size), wanting to build up a single speed over the winter, but I don't know enough to tell if it's a good deal or not -- any advice would be appreciated. Also: my experience is with rebuilding trash bikes -- will this frame be much lighter? Will it feel $300 better when riding?

Here's the ad and description. Want $300 negotible.

"A beautiful custom-made bike made by the Quebecois master frame builder Gilles Bertrand (He used to make bikes for champs like Steve Bauer). It's a real 80s lugged lightweight cro-moly road frame: rigid and responsive. The frame is in perfect physical condition. There are absolutely no dents or bulges on this frame. There are however some cosmetic paint dings here and there (mostly on the top tube) which were there when I bought it (I assure you that I've added no new dings!). Personally, I expect an old frame to show some 'charm'. Overall though, the paint retains its original lustre as seen in the details.

It's 59cm c-c with a 56cm c-c top tube.

Included in the sale is a cromo fork, shimano 600 headset and a miche bottom bracket. $300 nego

That's a good price for just about any frame.

Thanks -- that is exactly the kind of I need to know: when you're new it impossible to know where to start in terms of being able to value frames / parts. . .

Saw that ad. I would pay 200 max, although I admit it looks in excellent condition and it's kind of rare/unique. Try looking around garage sales/used bike shops. You'll find a nice Marinoni for less.

Hmmm, thanks -- I'll look around. Basically I just want something lighter -- a first step upgrade from always riding trash bikes.
