Anything wrong with buying a used thomson seatpost?

Or should I go new.. would the structural integrity be compromised with a used (unknowingly abused?) one..?

That's a completely valid point that has a ton to do with what we're talking about.

You should be ok with the used Thomson, especially for a road bike.

The only issue you might encounter would be that the 4mm allen head bolts that secure post to rails could be stripped.

I think itd be pretty darn hard to abuse a seatpost to the point where it'd be compromised, beyond stripping the bolt heads (possibly from a noob using an sae allen key instrad of a metric), or stripping threads from overtorquing or cross threading (a very unlikely possibility). They're strong little buggers and i'd think the parts around them, i.e. the frame and seat, would break a lot sooner than they would.

Thomsons are aluminum and the strongest on the market, so if it looks fine, it probably is.

The parent company is in aerospace, they know how to engineer stuff.

The only thing wrong about it is keeping people from me from being able to buy cheap Thompson seatposts.

If you need a 27.2 probably not otherwise unless you can check the size yourself caveat emptor.
