Fixed gear help in the LA/USC area?
I've noticed a few fixies running around USC lately and was wondering if any of you guys/girls frequent these forums? I'm thinking about the conversion on my centurion but want to talk to someone who's done it and discuss parts/etc beforehand. Thanks for any/all help

Check out lafixed.com it's a forum dedicated to fixed gear riding in LA (go figure). There's a huge thread on there about fixed gear sightings and if you describe the person, or bike, many people may know who you're talking about.

if you're looking for help with a conversion check out a place called the bicycle kitchen.
i don't live in LA but when i visited about a month ago i checked it out and it was a pretty cool place, bunch of volunteers looking to help anyone who comes in, all the tools you'll need to do what you want and plenty of spare parts. it's also right across the street from another shop called orange 20 which is also definitely worth checking out. It was cool to find these places in a generally bike-unfriendly area |
^^ no doubt
Check out the Kitchen and Orange 20. The guys are Orange 20 are legit. I've been there twice and have been nothing but impressed. Good service, good prices, TONS of SS/FG stuff. It's a tiny shop and you may have to wait a few to get helped, but don't worry they'll take care of you. They're both on Heliotrope, just off Melrose. And check out Scoops beside the kitchen too. |
^ +a trillion
especially scoops... mmm vegan ice cream... and jim and tj at o20 are the best.. |
dont forget about midnight ridazz (http://www.midnightridazz.com). you should go to a ride and talk to people there, everyone ive met is super nice and always down to talk about bikes.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm definitely gonna have to check both shops out and I'll have to get on lafixed as well. Thanks again!

Bike Kitchen is great. Also, for those in other parts of town, there's also Bikerowave (Santa Monica) and Bike Oven (Eagle Rock). All are great resources for help with working on your bike.
And +1 on O20... they will sort you out if you need parts for your bike. |
I ride my Windsor [curses himself for not waiting to buy a Mercier] to school.
We should get together for a ride sometime. |
We should definitely get a group together at Starbucks or Trojan Grounds
