Pake & Bare knuckle
whats the main difference between the two, besides wher they are made??
|
Pake is straight gauge 4130, while Bare Knuckle is Deda Zero Uno. The I am sure the geometry is probably different too, but I have not looked at both. I owned a Pake; it was flexi, but a nice and comfortable ride. It was a tad heavy. I don't really have any complaints about the bike, it was decent for the price.

The Pake is an absolute POS. It's single-butted, straight-gauge, SEAMED cro-mo. It's about one step above a Wal-Mart Schwinn.
I wouldn't be so against it, because the price isn't sooooo bad, but compared to the track bikes that Bikes Direct offers, you'd be foolish to buy a Pake. |

2. A lot of quality tubesets are seamed. It doesn't really affect the build or the ride much at all. It's just a different manufacturing process. |
He did have a point though. The bikesdirect bikes are a better price. I guess, if I were to do things over I would have bought a BD bike for my first fg.
|
maybe

1. If it's single-butted, it's not straight-gauge. Butted means that an end is thicker than the middle of the tubing. Double-butted is thicker on both ends of the tube. Single butted would (presumably) be only thicker on one end of the tubing. I've never heard of anybody using (or selling) single-butted tubing. Straight gauge tubing is of a consistent diameter.

soo basically the Pake is not the right bike to purchase. i have the money to get a pake but im wondering if i should just wait a little longer and get a Bare knuckle, the bare knuckle weighs les than the pake.....right???

Påké is not a part of Soma. We know there has been some confusion. But Påké is the project of one of our "associates." So we are helping him out by promoting it here. Visit the Pake site at www.pakebikes.com. This track frame is fashioned in burly, cold drawn, straight-gauge Tange CrMo steel tubes with a geometry similar to our Rush frame. Decals are outside the clearcoat and removable. Brake mounts, yes. Water bottle bosses on downtube only. Frame requires a 27.2mm seatpost and 1" headset. 120mm rear dropout spacing. Builds heavier than the Soma Rush but is cheaper. i think pake has steeper geo than eai tho |

the bareknuckle is a good ride. i love mine, i regret ever trying to trade it. mother****er is sooooo stiff adn agressive
by the way its going through a pretty big transformation..... |
I own a pake.. and I really can't complain about it.. its a good frame at a good price.. you could spend a lot more but also you could spend a lot less.. I commute every day its found that its very tough and resilient. but I also take it on long ride and have done over 65 miles on it. sprinting is easy as long as you have it set up with track drops.. it all depends on the ability of the rider, the setup of the bike, the gear ratio, etc
I think the soma rush is 1 pound LIGHTER, and I have heard it more than once on here that 1 lb isn't going to make a difference if you're not in shape or carry a backpack with texts books etc, I would go with whatever frame you like more and can afford, or hold out for what you want... I haven't ridden a bare knuckle but I wouldn't be turned off to trying one because numbers on the computer. Riding the each or first hand accounts are the best source of information.. |

Your way off here. The rush is lighter than the Pake. |
i got a pake and a soma, soma is lighter, both ride as well as any barenuckle imo.
|
Pake weight doesn't include the fork. It's like 6.5 to 7# depending on the fork.
Bareknuckle is not the lightest frame in the world, but it rides great. There are a whole bunch of frames in between the BK and the Pake - both as far as quality and price. In fact, most of them are in the middle of those two. |

This is like asking, "should I eat dog **** or fillet mignon."
|
sorry, i meant 1 pound lighter..
somafab says.. rush is 4 lbs. and here its said that the pake weighs 4.5 lbs |
is the SteamRoller a good frame, whats the weight???
i really like the crown on the fork, what other companies have a frame that is crowned wher the top tubes meet. |
by the way THANKS TRULY for all the replies, its people like you who make me happier to be Bicylist
|
what i wrote sounded a tad bit corny and kook-ish, but its true soo whatevrs
