iro cog and lockring

I don't know, but I will recommend that you never skimp on your cog and lockring. It's the one spot on your bike where you really need to pony up and get the good stuff.

They're okay. I don't do anything close to skidding though...

i dont think tony would use a terrible product. i haven't seen forum members complain.

IRO cogs are machined and not stamped...which means they are probably fine. I would imagine they are equivalent in quality to Surly or Soma cogs..which are both fine. At any rate, I've never heard of anyone stripping a hub with one.

DA cog = $25. Iro = $15. Well.

dddave 10-03-07 07:22 PM

i don't plan on doing a lot of skidding. maybe i'll just spring for da.

My girlfriends direct from IRO bike came with a soma cog...weird?

Make sure you put lock tight on it. After about 50 miles of riding my new IRO complete my lock ring and cog broke loose on a down hill skid stop. I didn't know that it's advised to do some hard skids then go back and retighten your cog and lock ring, thanks to my LBS now I know.

Get a decent lockring tool while you're at it. Hozan has a really nice one.

Landgolier 10-04-07 08:46 AM

There aren't as many suppliers as people selling cogs, though I think the old IRO are the surly/rockwerks design.

You can't buy a bad cog any more, some completes come with stamped cogs but I've never seen one for sale in the wild.
