Dear BFSSFG, NYC doesn't hate you...

... so why you hate on us so bad?

We like to bike here. It's fun. We have lots of cool bike peoples and lots of cool bikes. We race. We ride around. We drink together. We play polo. We do tricks on bikes. We fix bikes together. we throw goldsprints parties. WE LIKE BIKES. IF you are here on BF, you like bikes too?

As an ambassador for NYC bike culture, I would like to take a moment to invite any and all to some of our events this month.

This weekend, MASH SF is coming to NYC to play (big up yourself Bay Area!!!). Sunday all day there are going to be crazy cool events... a little alleycat action (it's nyc after all), trick at the world famous Brooklyn Banks (you dunno), a group ride, and screening of MASH.

Next weekend, the all city 5 Boro Generals series wraps up in Brooklyn at the Battle4Brooklyn. Saturday the 13th. Rad racing and party. www.5borogenerals.com for info.

The weekend after (October 20-21) is LOS MARCOS MAYHEM!!!! what you know about polo? what ever you know will be DESTROYED!

Finally, October 27 an NYC double whammy: Black Label Bike Club's annual BIKE KILL and La Bruja! NYC's year to year Halloween Alleycat extravaganza.

so BFSSFG, come, visit, have fun. We might seem arrogant, but really, it's all love here in the big apple. come check it out, and don't hate, APPRECIATE.

thanks,
-ck

Maybe you NYers shouldnt be so defensive, relax and stop worrying about if anyone likes you or not. Just do your thing.

Last time I went to NYC, some crossdresser with a handlebar mustache punched me in the ear. I hate NYC.

crissfyah, your confusing hating on alleycat racing with hating on NYC. We don't see eye to eye on the issue of alleycat racing, but I can agree with you about cycling in NYC. I moved out three years ago, and even though I never really was part of the "scene" (way too many other things I needed to be involved in). I have a genuine soft spot for cycling in NYC...you just can't duplicate that experience anywhere else. And people who have never ridden here will probably never get it.

New York, New York
I won't go back
Indelible reminder of the steel I lack
I gave you seven years
What did you give me back?
A jaw-grind, disposistion to a panic attack.

Actually, I love New York. I'd move there in a heartbeat if my wife would come with me.

Born and raised in NYC, lived there 48 years. I hate it. Will never go back. The people are rude. Nice people from somewhere else move there and become bad people. I saw it all. I hate it. It's a militarized zone. I don't feel safe there. In the late seventies I got a revelation that the WTC was ground zero. I don't know how but it just came to my mind. Then, it happened.

I hate it.

isn't it ironic when the very people that brought fixed gear riding off the track and back to the streets are hated on for the centerpiece of their subculture by the newbies just now getting on track bikes?

you know what this thread needs? a healthy discussion about whether a bike messenger is a member of the working class or not...
chris threw out an invitation to come hang out and see and do some stuff. get over yourselves and be nice.

they just brought it back because no one had done it since the 20s, lol.

What you miss is that andre is so wrapped up in the idea of a scene that he sees messengers in NY 30 years ago as part of the same scene as the hipsters riding down bedford ave with two aerospokes and risers.

Some people are way too serious. I thought that the monster track riders yelling at pedestrians while they were crossing cross walks was lame, but whatever.
