converting a rob roy into road

so I am trying to convince myself to buy the rob roy group buy frame. My main problem are the large brake outlets. I think it'd be cool to be riding with a v brake up front (they should be as good as a dual pivot road brake, right?) but the rear brake outlet would look weird on the street. Can I cut it off or should I wait for another group buy. thanks.

by "brake outlet" I assume you mean the canti posts?
A couple things:
1. V-brakes generally don't work with road or cross levers. You either need to use specific mountain V-brake levers or Diacompe V287 road levers, or Travel agents.
2. cutting off your rear canti posts is stupid. You're hacking up a perfectly good frame feature, ruining the paint, decreasing functionality and marginally improving aesthetics (the crap left over from your hack job is going to be ugly). Why not just mount 2 brakes? You're already losing street cred by riding a cross bike on the road, might as well make it functional.

Um, i ride a CX bike on the street for commuting. There's nothing wrong with it. If it really bothers you, just tie some streamers or attach some cute hello kitty figurines to the posts. ;) Cutting them off is pointless.

A proper cantilever setup will stop just as well as a dual pivot road caliper and looks better (at least to me) than a V-brake setup.

Converting SS to geared?

Isn't that kind of like dividing by zero?

Wait for a different frame. You should buy this frame because you want canti bosses (and other great features), not so that you can chop it up.

I don't think he means converting it to gears, I just think he doesn't feel like you can run a cross bike on the road.

To the OP - if you want a cheap track frame to run on the road, just buy one of those Kilo TT stand-alone frames for $170.

I'd rather get a different frame than mutilate a perfectly good frame that isn't set up how I want and only be semi-satisfied with it. Another group buy will undoubtedly pop up...it may or may not be what you want. There are plenty of frames out there there. If you are willing to wait several months for a group buy, then you have plenty of time to find a different frame that will work for you.

Use the rear post for light mounts.
