Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Whats up with Weinmann?

It's a good think you didn't say that, because you'd have been dead wrong.

bump for more opinions. i'm 130lbs and i'll be putting a set on my kilo when they come. i'm thinking of getting a new cog and lockring just for the hell of it and some new tubes and tires so i can use my current wheelset for backup or to build another bike...

anyway... they've been flooding flea bay for that many more months, anybody else have these?

i have two sets and having been using them for a little over 6 months. i agree with the general thought around here and that is spend the money/time right away to retension the spokes and you will be golden. they hold up well just make sure they are good to go from th beginning.

I've put about 460 miles on mine so far and they've held up great, even without a retension or true.

I borrowed a front wheel to a guy which got into an accident, he ran over his buddy rear wheel and crushed it but the weinmann are still alright apparently (I have yet to see it tomorrow)

I ride my weinmanns every day tarcking and they're okay. Back one is a few mm out of true after a week but whatever.

edit: I should add I weigh 200-210 pounds and really am beating my new set of weinmanns hard. My last pair, which I didn't try to act tarck-like on, lasted forever.

sweet... mine just came in the mail like ten minutes ago. i'm going to go have them retensioned and buy some tape tubes and tires

edit: got these outfitted, somehow managed to get my salty cog and lockring off the old wheelset and on the new... rides nice. hubs are smooth and high flange really makes a difference on the front.

What I wouldn't do to get a pair of NOS Weinmann Concave rims! My new project is just begging for some stout old rims like those.
I've had several bikes outfitted with various models of Weinmann rims, and I've never had a problem with splitting.
