Whats up with Weinmann?
So i recently ordered some weinmann rims and was wondering what people thought of them. I think they look pretty sick for being half the price of deep v's. Any complaints about them from anyone?

half the price HA! where were you looking for deep v's at, through wheel and sprocket it is an $80 difference between the two I was accidentally shipped weinmann's instead of my v's, I was not too impressed with the over all quality before i packed them back up and kicked them out the door. |

Weird, back when Weinmann was in the hands of its original Belgian owners they had the same problem with poor seams. The company is now an Asian OEM whatever brand, kind of funny that people are seeing the same problem. Splitting like that actually isn't that big of a deal, it's not like the pins that actually hold the rim together are going to come flying out.

I'm a clyde FWIW so I wouldn't expect everyone to put so much force on the weinmanns. |
Damn, are they really this prone to failure? I just picked up a pair that I haven't ridden yet due to an incomplete ride.
None of the other threads were so negative about DP-18's or any other Weinmann rim. In fact, most about the DP's were unanimous in saying they're strong rims--maybe largely on assumption, as they're deep rims. By extension, I'd think strong means relatively durable. Not so? And the rim doesn't look as bad as people say, but I'm sure the Velocity's look better. I don't care, as long as I don't need to prepare myself for buying new rims in the next year. |
i've had mine for a year, and haven't had a single issue.
and, to be honest, if they were to split, i would spend another $27 and the hour it took to lace them. i didnt go into a $27 deep v rim expecting gold, and my expectations have been far surpassed. |

you're not huge either, and my other friend is probably <120 lbs and his look like they're splitting. Wanna sell me your disk?
|
The spoke tension does keep them together, and they don't fail, they just open a small gap at the seam. No biggie.
|
I dont own the dp18s, I've had a set of lp18's for about two years and they've been great. I just ordered a set of velocity deep v's though.
|
So do I buy the dp18s or deep vz? Is it worth the extra dollarz?
|
You cant beat the weinmann price... I ordered a set for 130 on ebay which is $100 dollars cheaper than buying deep v's online and even more of a savings if I wanted to build them up myself... I know every one talks about the durability of deep v's and all but I like the look of weinmanns and every one I've talked to thats had them have liked them a lot...

I have had two sets one survived a season and then some (ran over some pedestrians on my way home still true) non machined brake surface eh oh well get good quality shoes the tire bead portion of the rim is a little thicker and more durable than the deep v the deepv has a problem where they dent along the braking surface near the tire bead just thin aluminum the weinmanns are about 30 a set and weigh a little more and are more durable and in my opinion the solors look better the velocity's as well
|
I've got machined DP-18's. Visually, I quite like that the brake surface is offset from the V, and the surface seems to be of good quality, though it must be hard to fsk up a machined surface.

Dude, I was just going to say "punctuation has little to do with dyslexia" or something equally whiny when I realized that his avator IS Onslow from Keeping Up Appearances. Good on ya.
Still, I'll just say that punctuation is pretty necessary for making yourself coherent and clear. |
