Cheapest Place to get Bulletproof cranks?

Looking for them in 165mm color doesnt matter, but yea any places in mind, free shipping would be a huge plus.

ebay

can we get some nice solid reasoning as to why these cranks are so cheap? are they just flexy and heavy or is it more than that?

BRANDUNE 10-12-07 11:52 PM

I have some, they are pretty light and they were kinda flexy but I am a biiiig guy, the are actually made by RPM and they are sold as FSA cranks as well

... and? do you like them?

how heavy are they compared to say 80's road cranks?

BRANDUNE 10-12-07 11:54 PM

Sorry, I was editing that

cc700 10-13-07 12:05 AM

ahh. if they're sold as FSA they can't be that bad, can they?

BRANDUNE 10-13-07 12:11 AM

Thats kinda my feeling, I think people generally hate on them just because everyone else does, just like most other things on here. I think the FSA version are usually marketed as BMX cranks

cc700 10-13-07 12:12 AM

i thought they were probably bmx cranks the second i saw them.

gehrkead 10-13-07 12:20 AM

man looking at that price i am super tempted to get them to replace the stock ones that came with my pista. i think those are pretty slick looking. without hijacking this thread, could anyone recommend a decent chainring? (preferably 48 tooth)

cc700 10-13-07 12:23 AM

i like my salsa ring...
but i don't know if they make the right tooth/bcd combo without looking around.

BRANDUNE 10-13-07 12:27 AM

The Bulletproof are 110 bcd, Ive used Rocket, Sugino, and FSA

+1. Got mine for like $15 shipped.

what size do you guys have because they range from 150mm all the way to like 165 i think. what are the pros and cons of shorter (or longer) crank arms?

cc700 10-13-07 01:20 PM

they make 170 too i think. maybe bigger.

the only benefits are having smaller spins so your legs don't have to move as much, and less toe overlap and pedal strike. that has more to do with frame geometry than a smaller diameter spin though. 150 are basically made for kids with short legs. 165 is a good size.

i have some on my fixie. i think they are usually marketed as bmx cranks. i run the 170s

you generate more power (by having more leverage) with longer crank arms if you bb is lower to the ground you would want shorter cranks to avoid pedal strike and toe over lap. luckily having a tr-frame i have a high bb and no toe over lap.

i run a 40tooth rocket ring in mine, but you have to be carful to find the right crank arm bolts to go into them

plus i ran them on a pedal cab with no issue for several months.

I have a pair, and I like them. Then again, I've never owned a "nice" crankset, so maybe there are things that I just don't notice about them because I don't have a point of reference.
