I'm sorry about your truly bad luck. But those two pics are among the most rad I've ever seen posted here.

Does your plate now activate the metal detectors in airports?

one time i actually rear ended a lady's car (long story involving work, a bridge and really high sidewalks) and i smashed her rear window completely out with my body, but miraculously i was unharmed. (yes, i was wearing a helmet, no i was not riding a fixy)

I was hit twice this year. First time the driver ran over my bike. Second time I took the hit and my bike got a scratch on the rack. Scrapes from the first one; broken ribs and separated shoulder on the 2nd.

thanks guys... no, it didn't set off the metal detectors. i was kind of disappointed...

yeah, still riding. i'm addicted. i had years of incident-free riding before this year, so hopefully 2007 is just a fluke.

(now i wear a helmet)

oh man perfect thread for my latest ******** bike story

im riding on a road with 2 lanes, and then one of parked cars. i was riding with the traffic (at about 35kmh). In the lane to my right pulls up a lady in her car on the cell phone, and then she merges into my lane... like right into me... like passenger door into elbow. i pulled out of the way so she didnt hit me (which meant my elbow hit parked cars). So i yelled at her, and called her virtualy anything i could think of. and she waved a "thanks" wave and kept driving...
so i took off after her to explain to her what she had done. on the 3 set of lights, i caught up to her, pulled up to her driver side window (which was open) and told her (yelled) what she had done, and how she had almost killed me, and how she should use her mirrors.
So i thought it was over, she looked throughly scared, and sorry.
Then the horn started, she held down her horn down for about 5 blocks (3 of which had red lights) and drove as close to me as she could (3cm-10cm), then at each red light i would come to a stop, and she would bump me with her car (so hard that had i been trackstanding, or still clipped in i would be on the ground), so needless to say i was scared ****less (160lb kid on a 20lb bike vs. crazy woman in 2000lb+ car)... and so angry i was having a hard time controlling my self (i wanted to hop up on the hood of her car, and open up her windshield with my heel) i didnt catch her plate number...

(sounds crazy but its true. and i dont know why i didnt leave that road and go for a side street after the first red light, i just wasnt thinking)

then like 5 min after that "excitement", i stopped at a red light. i was in the lane that goes "straight or left" and to my right was the "right turn only". The car behind and to my right (in the right turn lane) honked, i turned around, and she did this whole hand jesture that implyed i was meant to sit right next to the curb (even though i was going straight) then started yelling at me to move into the right turn lane because "thats where those bike things are meant to go", so me being still shook up, just shook my head and pointed forward.
she then said "YOUR AN IDIOT, YOUR GOING TO SLOW ME DOWN", so i laughed and asked her if she wanted to race across town, and she rolled up her window and shut up. The guy sitting directly behind me was laughing his ass off at this encounter, and then yelled "YEA YOU TELL THAT DUMB *****"... which made me feel better.

I mean everyone can do that this days.
Of course the person is going to say that...

A police report can be opened without the other side approving it. Its up to the judge to decide if you are lying or not and if there were witnesses its on your side.

If you want you can even open a report just for kicks if you know what I mean...
small claim court, pictures, damage on his/her car, witnesses, where was the person coming from, is that his/her daily route and besides you know where the mofo lives at.

I love riding my bike through them though.
you do know you get a hardcore ticket for that right? pretty much the only ticket they seem to be giving to bikers..

Weee, I got hit (again) yesterday! Some silly person in a burgundy-colored automobile made a right turn into my buysikal. Luckily, I was riding the beater, and it wasn't very hard (didn't fall down). I was almost past her, so you'd think she would have seen me in time, but as it happened, her plastic bumper sustained a heck of a lengthy scratch from my rear left track nut. Other than that, no damage. I was mad, yelled "Hey! Watch it!" as it was happening, and a whole bunch of folks sitting outside at a restaurant hooted & hollered like elementary school kids watching a make-out scene. We both stared at each other for a second, and then both departed. I doubt she noticed she even touched me, but she was quite startled. Hopefully it'll serve as a mild lesson, and she'll look for bikes more carefully.

The hell she will. Humans don't work that way. If there's no consequence to their actions, their actions will continue. Same principle works for disciplining children - if they know they have a chance to get away, they'll try again. But if discipline is consistent, they'll listen when you yell "stop, there are cars here".

But without consequences, there's no change in behaviour.

So, that time i was reflecting on my day, and recalling a driver i flipped off... thinking to myself deciding that it was an improper action and i should be nicer, then changed my behavior and adopted a more respective attitude to humanity...

what was my consequence?

or was there not one and you're a bitter old coot...

drivers in my town are ridiculous...

last three close calls:

-Lady almost dooring me and yelling a mongoloid-sounding 'wooooaaaahhhh' as I barely avoid her.
Thanks, yeah you're the one scared.

-Car not signaling and cutting me off this morning. He stopped and I did a pretty amazing controlled power slide around the bumper of his car.

-Couple of stunned-looking people stopping suddenly for no reason in front of me today in the middle of a busy road. Thanks.

I swear, lead in the water around here or something. Luckily it's been only close calls so far.

You should be able to sue the crap out of the dude since he ran. Enjoy your new BMC or whatever.

Stuff happens a lot but you're faster and more agile than cars. You learn to avoid it. It's just about being aware of your surroundings. Sometimes though you'll never be able to stop.

What does "and claim insurance fraud" mean? The person at the door claimed insurance fraud? How does insurance fraud apply to this case?

So, my situation is turning out alright. It was my fault that I was biking at dusk without lights and not signaling the fact that I was thinking about turning left for a block, but it was the other guy's fault for a. rear ending me, b. probably speeding, and c. leaving the scene of the incident. The old dude who hit me seems decent enough, and is interested in settling out of court, so I feel very fortunate that I will be able to get a couple thousand bucks, whereas many cyclists in the past have lost their lives or money in situations like this.

All are fine and she is being charged.
