perfect fixed ride on Sunday
Sunday was a short (20 miler) ride to shake out the rebuilt-as-fixed Schwinn World Voyageur. A combination of a newly purchased Carradice Pendle and the smoothness of the machine stretched to a glorious 83 miles that I wish had never ended.
The bag, a Carridice Pendle, is the perfect one day tour bag. It's actually a Junior with side pockets. It's just big enough to handle tools, food, rainwear and those extras I obsess about. The bike is a Schwinn World Voyageur I got from First Flight Bikes as a frame I built it as a fixie with a flip/flop. The original parts are first generation Shimano Dura-Ace. I kept the Shimano theme but updated the brakes to aero. The crank I am especially proud of...1st generation Dura-Ace, ebayed. No shifter bosses to worry about it was originally set-up as bar-end shifters. Those early seventies long chainstays and relaxed geometry make for a smooth, stable and most comfortable ride. I can;t wait for the weekend to go out again. |
Djudd,
Where'd you get the bag? I'm a bag junky myself--always looking for that perfect tote. I've never tried a saddle bag like the Pendle though. Why do you prefer it over a rack with a rack-top bag? Thanks. |
I got the bag from Peter White Cycles but Wallbike has them to. I actually have a rack on my commuter (Sterling Sportlight fixed w/ 42/16) there I use a Carradice Nelson Longflap. I have a racktop bag but find it inadequate (in size) for carrying much. My experience with saddlebags as been 100% positive. I love experimenting with bags and finding the perfect one for a ride is almost as fun as the ride.
