rear wheel for single speed

hi everybody,

i'm trying to build up an old bridgestone kabuki that i got for free into a single speed. the wheels are rusted/damaged/heavy so i was planning on buying new ones as cheaply as possible. for the back wheel i was considering buying this: http://www.bikepartsusa.com/product_...1&p=01%2D82964

can anybody tell me how they think this would work for a ss. the page says 5-7 speed, but "screw on freewheel hub" sounds like it would work okay for throwing a bmx freewheel on it. what would i need to do to make this a suitable ss wheel. i don't completely understand what re-dishing is. any help would be appreciated.

thanks,
adam

That would work - you would screw a single bmx freewheel in place of the intended cassette freewheel. However, it's a 27" rim, so you're going to have a moderately annoying time finding tires (700c is what modern wheels are). Also, I don't see any info about the hub which is a little weird. Also, you probably want to get a hub that is fixed at least on one side - you can run a freewheel on it, but if you want to go fixed at some point, you're still good with that wheel

If you are in Pittsburgh, Kraynicks on Penn Ave had Weinmann / formula flipflop hubs for $40 a couple of months ago.
