risers are CHEATING!!!...

switched out drops to mess with some risers for a bit, no poser. bunny hops and wheelies are too eazy tho!!!....this is cheating!!! How are you gonna feel like you are a bad ass when you pop that monster wheelie, when it feels like your bike barely left the ground and you're barely leaned back! and bunny hops?!, shiet...might as well be on a flat land trick bike or something!

[Drops]...

babychris 10-28-07 04:53 PM

alright.

tjayk 10-28-07 04:55 PM

i really have a hard time holding wheelies on my cross-check - i think it is the slack geometry. i actually fell pretty hard doing one while clipped in the other day... maybe doing wheelies on track bikes is cheating? we all know how much more badass wheelies on touring bikes are...

robcycle 10-28-07 05:03 PM

OK, I understand how one could integrate bunny hops and track stands into daily riding, but, other than impressing people, of what use are wheelies?

-Rob.

tjayk 10-28-07 05:07 PM

wheelies are fun in and of themselves. they are still fun if noone is looking.

save_alkaline 10-28-07 05:10 PM

trust me.. no one is impressed by wheelies or anything else for that matter.. they're already laughing at you for riding your bicycle anyway.

yup...they help your balance and reflexes too. and if you have an uneven stroke, they will point that out (ie..you'll fall over to one side)

vasracer 10-28-07 05:25 PM

Skidding is so much more easier with risers. It's just more convenient, tell me honestly, how many tricks can you pull off in a freestyle comp with drops??

blickblocks 10-28-07 05:26 PM

I've got a pair of risers sitting on my floor that I'm just dying to try, except I don't want to deal with ****ing with my bar wrap to get my bullhorns off. Maybe I'll jack a stem off one of my trash bikes.

I can't tell you how many adjustments I haven't made to my bikes because of small acts of laziness like this. Especially when it comes to messing with bar tape, I can't stand un-wrapping and re-wrapping that stuff just to find I liked things how they were before and doing it again. It's sad, really.

jdms mvp 10-28-07 05:34 PM

i cut my TT so i can do barspings with my drops

Fugazi Dave 10-28-07 05:34 PM

OK, I want the OP to buy a BMX bike and run drops on it. Just 'cause.

Is your wrap held on with copious amounts of electrical tape? Drunken trackstands (or trackfalls) have torn my wrap mostly into fragments of it's former self.

Pop-tops ftw.

No, drops are just useless when all you do is ride on the tops of them trying to do wheelies and other bull****.

jdms mvp 10-28-07 09:05 PM

i just swapped my b123s for my b201s and.....it was a different experience, but nothing stood out in my mind. i don't have a 650c so it's not like i can barspin =P

dylandom 10-28-07 10:56 PM

what finally made u switch to risers. I hope it was how awesome i looked with my risers.
anyway, please wil u teach me to wheelie. i've been going to peel sessions and kyle and j.prolly suck at explaining how to wheelie.

blickblocks 10-28-07 11:35 PM

I installed my risers, going to try riding brakeless for a little bit (ie - Just tomorrow morning). Only problem is that the stem I used is a cheapo BMX-style block, and it's made for a smaller diameter clamp size. The bars feel really secure but they certainly don't look it.

Sammyboy 10-28-07 11:53 PM

When you can pop a wheelie on a LWB recumbent? THEN you're badass.

Metricoclock 10-29-07 12:34 AM

I've been considering going to risers myself, i haven't been using my drops just riding on the tops ever since i got my track hubs, i've been feeling much more comfortable when it comes to stopping having my body more vertical and in line with my peddles than while in my drops. might just have to switch them out tomorrow

calf man 10-29-07 01:49 AM

I just got rid of my drops for a shortish straight bar with small bar ends.
I find myself riding on the bar ends all the time as they are in the same place as the "hoods" on a road bike. Love the simplicity of this setup.

ryanlovesyou 10-29-07 02:34 AM

I have risers on my daily rider... its nice cause it lets you sit upright so you can see whats going on with traffic and whatnot. They're pretty comfy but definitely get old after about 30 miles. I'm usually not riding that far so the lack of hand positions isn't usually a problem for me.

parkerlewis 10-29-07 05:10 AM

Risers make riding backwards much easier, for sure.

Also I would have to disagree that nobody is impressed with wheelies! Its like saying nobody is impressed when a skater casually kickflips a 4-stair. I hope anyone bagging tricks, can actually do them themselves! ;)

Transfixed06 10-29-07 06:06 AM

risers vs flats. pros cons?

The risers probably weigh less than flats and a stem with more rise? :(

If I had to guess, I would guess the pro for most people is that they look cool and they can put funny colored BMX grips on them.

got that one backwards.

unless you want your bars really high risers are purely aesthetic.
