I just commute across Camarillo to the outlet mall on the weekends, and usually ride around Ventura a couple nights a week.

I'm in IV.
I see about 20 fixed gears a day, all conversions, riding around the UCSB campus. The UCSB scene is largely made up of guys, who are often wearing sandals, rocking platforms without clips on their brakeless fixed gear. If you've ever been on the bike path at 10 to the hour, you know why this is a recipe for disaster. Also, I've heard a fixed gear bike referred to as anything other than a "fixie" only twice during my time here.
That being said, I have talked to a few cool guys who know what they are doing.
Have you checked out the SB midnight ridazz? I only rode with them once over a year ago and, at the time, it was mostly non-fixed riders. A few of the rides that I heard about last year looked like a lot of fun, though. You might want to check them out to see if they are even still doing their thing.
I would be interested in getting a group together for rides or general ****ing around on our bikes. When I'm not in SF I don't really have anyone to call me a wuss for getting dropped or not being able to do some trick. I could use some tough love and good times around here.

OXNARD! i don't think i've seen a single legitimate road bike in Oxnard, much less a fixie...except once in Ventura...maybe it was one of you guys...
that said, i currently go to school at USC so that doesn't matter

Ventura here. Always looking for someone to ride fixed with. I'm just a few blocks off the bike path to Ojai near downtown Ventura. Serious training: helmet, Lycra, pain.
