Single speed coaster brake prices
 

Anyone know what These types of bikes are going for (single speeds with a coaster brake). What would something similar to this setup cost? I can't seem to find any bikes on e-bay or craigslist that have the full set up. An example...

I don't know for sure, but that frame looks like it could be pretty horrid.

Generally speaking it will be the cost of any given bike you want plus a new rear wheel build. A shimano E-110 coaster hub is around $15. A swanky Kogswell is $35 or 40 I think.

You'll have to either build or have built for you the rear wheel, because premade 700c coaster wheels are hard to find. NYC bikes used to make one for around $100 but I've heard bad things about their quality.

weird cable routing. I guess it's because of the way the brake cable has to go by the top of the headset, but still it looks goofy.

Center pull brakes.

But why have a front brake on a coaster? Kinda defeats the faux-brakeless-track bike look, doesn't it?

I have an old 27" wheel that I built up with a 3-speed coaster... just an old Shimano, due to the internals, the flange was almost the exact same height an old road hub, just pulled the spokes out and swapped the new hub in.

If you are looking for something snazzy, your LBS would probably be more than happy to build one up.

are those coaster brakes as well

it seems that the road rimed coaster hubs are not as popular as fat tire coaster hubs

Well, the Kona Humuhumu, in the coaster-brake incarnation (that would be the 2006 model, IIEC) had both a coaster brake and a V brake in front.

And almost all coaster-braked bikes I've seen have this setup. Why? As a FG rider once told me: " I got brakes, 'cause there's still a lot of stuff I want to teach my children".

i relaced a E110 into my rim without any problems....besides the crappy true job i did....works great...worst case you can have the LBS redo it for you.....just keep another rim handy to make sure your relacing it properly

do you run a road rim, with regular road tires? How is the stopping power?

A coaster on a road rim w/regular tires will stop just as well (or poorly) as any other rear brake that will lock the wheel.
