My bike's been sighted again, this time on Laurel right in front of the dorms. I may have info on the person who stole it, mainly his name and where he works. I'm heading down to his workplace right now to see if it's locked up outside.

icknayvon 04-15-08 02:20 PM

You need anyone to roll with you?

Jenkinsal2 04-15-08 03:09 PM

if you needs some help im in as well.

lordgold 04-15-08 03:49 PM

I had some people go with me, but the bike wasn't there. I just got a call from my friend Trey, he was at Andrew (804RVA) and Matty B's house, looked out the window, and saw someone riding down Cary on my bike. The tried to catch up, but lost him. Here are a ****ty picture I used for a time studio project. The tires are no longer orange, they're Gatorskins now, and the stem is now a black 3T mutant.

I've been keeping my eyes open.

I totally didn't see this thread. I don't go to VCU, but I live in Richmond, and I'm smarter than you anyway. OK, maybe not, but if I see you damned kids riding around I'll either wave or give you the finger.

I prefer to give hugs as you ride by, it usually ends up me pulling you off your bike as you try to get away though. I just want a hug.

Straws 04-16-08 01:14 PM

my favorite endearment is the yelling of "eat ****" out the window as people drive by. It's always a pick me up.

icknayvon 04-16-08 01:53 PM

I like to yell "Two wheels powered by one man" when I ride past people.

Also, I sometimes feel like I'm stuck in a permanent game of footdown, so heads up.

VAwitt 04-16-08 02:34 PM

sprint series tonight?

Jenkinsal2 04-16-08 02:35 PM

I like when people blow past you on the way to cary town yelling stuff and then hit lights as I blow back by with a wave and a smile.

yeah I live in the museum district and this is a weekly thing. Someone buzzing me at 45mph or yelling **** out the window and 20 seconds later I pass them at one of the dozen stop signs or lights.

can you give us the places its been seen locked up? maybe take a google map image and mark it so we can get a general idea to look out for? I get off on looking for stolen bikes... I was able to find my buddies bike in jackson ward this last fall after it had been taken from GRC.

If I see someone making like they're going to tackle me, I'll know it's you. Maybe I should start wearing my helmet more.

icknayvon 04-17-08 06:41 AM

Who sprinted last night?

Yo 420 666 69 04-17-08 10:50 AM

not i. pretty bummed about it too. considering that i will be slaving at work for probably every race.

804RVA 04-17-08 12:48 PM

Dom sorry we couldn't catch that guy, we ****ing rode all over the place looking for it. I have told a lot of people to keep an eye out so hopefully the bike will get back to you sooner rather then later. In other news, does anyone know if they will be running time trials next week as well (I didn't do one last night when I was there)

lordgold 04-18-08 01:17 AM

I made a Google map for it. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...06f1beffe21af1

In other news, anyone have any tips on removing a seized stem?

nayr497 04-18-08 08:11 AM

Okay, been wondering about this for awhile and now that I saw part of a South Park about the internet...why in the hell do you people who all live in the same town or on the same campus need an internet forum to correspond?

Don't they have a campus phone system/service? Don't you have cellular phones? Maybe I'm just old (not even thirty) but it is weird to me that you'd come here to talk to someone you could call with two cans and a string.

What will you do when the internet goes down? How will you figure out when and where to meet up for a ride? And, more importantly, how will you find pictures of Japanese girls puking into one another's mouths??!

What's even more off the wall is that we are all in the same room while on the forum. Come to Richmond and find out we are men of few words. Bring a laptop to access bikeforums if you want to be in the know on what's going down.

Sidenote: Polo was pretty tight yesterday. Saw some new faces I would assume are also on here. Would have said what's up but that's what this thread is for.

Straws 04-18-08 10:52 AM

polo on thursdays? what what?

icknayvon 04-18-08 12:46 PM

I will play polo any day of the week. I might even play twice in one day.

lordgold 04-18-08 10:40 PM

Well, I have a bike now. A 64cm old roadie, keep in mind that I'm 5'11" and all torso. Stock everything, except the wheels that came with my Kilo, and Nitto Jaguar and b123s. A bit of an oxymoron.

Anyone have an old pair of pedals with clips they could float my way for cheap? It's all I need to start riding again.

First, try PB Blaster. Soak it, then wrestle it a bit. Once it moves-- even slightly-- stop and reapply PB blaster. Let soak. Twist again. Repeat until you succeed or you give up...

Some folks have luck with ammonia or heat.

Failing that, saw the stem off. Leave as much as you can poking out from the headnut (ie cut as close to the bend in the stem as you can. Get what is called a "drop" hacksaw, and very carefully saw three grooves on the inside of the stem. Hit the stem on the outside with punch and hammer. If done properly, the stem will collapse in and you can easily remove the bits.

This last takes time and care, and quite obviously destroys the stem. Care must be take to not saw thru the stem into the fork column.

(this assumes a quill stem)

bradenCBC 04-20-08 01:04 PM

If you cant get it out yourself I probably can... we have dealt with an unnaturally high amount of seized stuff this year and have all the proper tools for even the most drastic measures.
