Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Go to the Amtrack lot in front of Main St. Station. Go at night so it's empty and to get the full effect. Purple lights shining up to the overpasses, fresh pavement for the skidzorz, and kinked curbs for the bunny hopz.

do you guys still meet up for a ride thursdays at 10 on the compass? I hit it up a couple weeks ago but no one was there. I'm not going out tonight because I'm watching the RNC nominate McCain but just wondering if it's still regular.

A plea to you all:

Oil/grease your bikes. Tell your friends to do the same. I cringe when I hear squeaky cranks and clattering chains.

sometimes that's not enough. I bought a new chain a couple days ago and had forgotten how quiet a bike can sound.

another day for the garage ride I'm guessin'.

this is kind of random, but anyone want to go splitsies on a tallbike? heh. I have a spare frame and a possible welder. just lookin' for someone interested in meeting halfway. plus, I can't really store it anywhere.

but, if any of you are tall or know anyone tall, it's 68cm(c-t) Puch frame+fork if you/friend are/is interested in a conversion. if not, future tallbike.

Attention to anyone interested in bike polo. Come out Sundays to Holly St. Park. We will be there from 1ish or so until it is dark. We are looking for more people to come play with us. You will most likely have a good time. There will most likely be a mallet there that you can use. I would probably advise against riding your nice bike or everyday rider. Nobody will be out there to destroy your bike but sometimes accidents can happen.

Here is what you have been missing and what you can be a part of.

RVA Polo has been traveling for tournament play since April. We have played in 7 or 8 tournaments in DC, New York, Boston, and Chicago. Teams sent from Richmond have twice been on the podium with the Steel Horsemen finishing third in Boston, and On Deck finishing second in the most recent DC tournament.

Our numbers have varied in travel with 20+ making up 5+ teams in Boston. To two teams to compete at the Nacccs in Chicago.

With the popularity this sport is gaining we would really like to have some new faces and talent to take on the road with us.

The future of Polo in Richmond is questionable as we do not have an adequete court to play at. Our Sunday court at Holly St. has no sidewalls or lights. The standard for other cities is a enclosed roller hockey rink or tennis court with boards built along the fence. We need to build something like this but with the small group we have now it is getting hard to organize.

Richmond has produced competitive teams with the resources that we have. Imagine how much better we could be with more teams, a better place to practice and a larger group that is interested in traveling to play.

Tournaments to look forward to... We will most likely be taking most of the winter off from any travel outside of DC. (We intend to come up with an alternating schedule to practice with the DC kids) The next tournament will most likely be in Februrary. Bike Polo Spring Break in Pensacola. Our buddies from Ottawa are chartering some busses traveling down the east coast, picking up players along the way to head to the court right on the water in FL. What could be more rad than that?

If you ever played hockey or lacrosse and you currently enjoy riding a bike you will most likely love polo and pick up on it pretty quickly.

So come out on sunday, have a blast, and play some polo.

If you live in Randolph you have most likely seen my roomates or I riding to or from a polo court.

Listen to this man. He is wise, manly, sweet, and saucy all at the same time. And his birthday is tomorrow. By this time you know bike polo exists and you are curious. Come out and play, we will shower you with mallets, give you kool-aid, beer, or kisses when you show up and you will have some fun. Its competitive and entertaining and I've already been to a bunch of cities that otherwise I would have never gone to.

Check it!
Go Orioles!
