Finally got around to stripping and priming an old Bianchi Pista frame. I filled the rear brake hole. I have absolutely no idea what color to throw on this thing. I can go with the original flat black or go with the Bianchi celeste green. Is celeste green available in a spray can? I don't plan on applying any decals.

how did you strip it? sandpaper?

an option that i did with another bike i painted was to take it to a mom/pop sand place - it was called "MasterBlaster" (two man enter.. one man leave) - was 20 bucks to sandblast it.

Auto paint dealers can mix custom colors and put them in spray cans for you. Either bring a sample or just pick a swatch from one of their books. Or even contant Bianchi and ask them what mix they use.

Hmmm......no. Should I have? I wasn't aware of that since this is my very first strip-down project. The Jasco paint stripper I used stripped the paint but just down to the dark grey factory primer. I left most of that on the frame. Only small portions of bare metal were exposed after some light sanding. Then I applied a coat of spray can primer, sanded, then another coat, and sanded again.

Use the frame saver after you do your paint job. You spray it inside of the frame tubes to protest from rust.

Would BioShield work as well? I can get some of that.

Not sure. I just did a quick search and it looks like Bioshield makes a bunch of products.

The JP Weigle (sp?) Frame saver product is made to spray in your tubes of your bike. Then you rotate the frame and it coats everything. When it dries it becomes like a thick, resin type coating. A can costs around $10 and will do several frames. I just did two frames with the can I have and I had already done one in the past. I've still got a little left over. In a pinch once, I got a product made by the makers of Naval Jelly. Similar stuff, but you could tell it did not dry with nearly as thick of a coating and I don't think it would protect nearly as well.
