Track Tandem...
CHeck this auction out a track tandem
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=7298 Sounds like fun way to big for me though :( I can see riding a track/fixed gear bike on streets without brakes but a tandem it sounds dangerous to me atleast. You would have need excellent communication between the captain and stoker. |
Yeah, TAndem is cool to watch. Saw a race at the Olympic Velo in Co. Sprngs once...and prolly the worst accident I have ever seen at a race too: going into the first turn this tandem hit the rear tire of another. The 'hitting' tandem went down HARD. Captain=unconscious, 4 broken ribs, massive bruising on back and thighs. Stoker=broken ribs, bruising, broken nose. Not very pretty. Like a tangle of steel and people.

We had a (very) old tandem hanging from the ceiling. Fixed, BIG half skip chain, and rear steering. Mixte' geometry up front. It is now at another shop as we moved and now have 0 space.
|
i have a tandem sitting in my garage waiting for a new wheel set... i contemplated turning it into a fixed... i figuered it could be a fun way to convince non fixie riders... too many hills to really do it tho i think...

How do you convert a road tandem into a fixie one? Any info on that soemwhere? That could make it more accessible!
|
how would it be different from converting a regular bike?
|
Idon't know that either! How would it be done?
|
On a tandem the front and rear cranks are already 'fixed' to each other so the conversion would just be a normal fixed conversion from the stroker back. Pick your gearing, get a wheel (a strong one) and have a go at it. The whole dropout thing would likely be a problem with a newer frame but if you can find an older one.......

waht is the rear spacing of new tandems? what about chain tensionning?
|
I mean...new TRACK tandems?
