So I have been offered a really good deal on a 60 cm crosscheck frame that i plan to use mostly for commuting and distance riding, sometimes fixed, sometimes with gears. The thing is, both my existing bikes have been 58's. I'm just wondering if there is any way in hell this frame will fit me.

Here's a bike of mine with a 57.5cm tt, 58cm st (c2c), 9 cm stem. My aim with this one was to get the bars close to me without resorting to a nitto technomic. Because the head tube ends kinda low, this means they are about 1 3/4" lower than the saddle.

The 60 cm crosscheck has a 60 cm effective tt, and only a 58 cm st c2c because of the high bottom bracket. I plan on running a riser stem. Is there some weird Grant Peterson type reason why higher bars will compensate for the longer reach on this frame?

I'd especially appreciate feedback from any crosscheck owners.

As bar height increases, effective reach shortens.

But I think you'll be disappointed trying to make a 60 work.

yeah i've tried it, the only real solution is a super short stem.

you'd definitely notice a difference in steering with the short stem, but not so bad that it's unsafe or ruins the ride or anything. i rode for several years on a 6cm stem, and it sounds like you wouldn't need anything that drastic.

for me it would depend how good of a deal it was, but it'd have to be pretty good. i'm done kludging frames that don't fit me just so i can have a "nicer" frame. used crosschecks and crosscheck-like frames are pretty common and can be had pretty cheaply. you could always buy it and try to flip or trade it, but again there are a lot of variables there.
