Deal/Recommendation on first SS

I'm looking to buy my first single speed bike. I would be using it mainly on the streets of Kansas City and some paved trails. Do you know of any good deals on a bike that would fit my needs? Also, I'm 6'2" and about 195 lbs. so I'm looking around 60 cm.

Any hints on a good deal or recommendations would be great! Thanks.

OP, how about a budget?

My budget is between $350 and probably around $550. I saw the Mercier and thought that might be a good bike for me. How much would brakes cost to put on that? I also saw the Bianchi Pista and thought about getting that but no bike shops in Kansas City stock Bianchi bikes. I would really like to test drive one before spending that much money. The Mercier does look nice but I would like to get something I can buy locally and therefore have a shop that will take good care of me. I like the idea of a flip flop hub also as I'm not sure which way I would rather use it. Any other good deals or recommendations. Thanks again!

I've seen a lot of these SE bikes at the rack downtown lately. They look pretty nice:

(not sure of price on the Raleigh)

I know you're avoiding online retailers, but I thought I'd mention IRO:

And hey, for $350-550, you can always build up a nice conversion!

Isn't that a fixie?

You might want a flip-flop, but don't ya want brakes?!

I picked up an SE Lager for $325 on clearance from my local Performance Bike. It's got front and rear brakes along with the flip-flop. I like it a lot. I'm not too sure I'd bother with an SE Draft.

Midwest Cyclery in Midtown and Summit Cycles in Lee's Summit should both have a Pista or 3 sitting around.

If I were you, I'd cruise down to Acme Bicycle Company and pick up a Redline 925. It's a great bike, and Sarah and Christy (the owners) will take good care of you.
