I need help with this "vintage" crankset
 

Hey squad... picked up a "Sakae Custom" crankset with BB on ebay for cheap. Everything works fine. But I have no use for the "bigring" So I took it off. It has a weird mounting system and it looks like its leaving me with a 52T chainring with a 190mm BCD (5-bolt). Has anyone heard of this? Know if there's anything still out there 190 BCD?

I was just gonna get rid of it but it seems like it might be something very difficult to replace should I need it.

Lemme know if anyone has any leads.

Never heard of it. I just did a search and came up with nothing. Are you sure it is 190 BCD? Seems big.

There are lots of weird old cranksets out there that were basically one-off rigs, especially from sakae. What are you trying to do exactly?

To give you guys an idea... the actualy bolts go into the 52T chainring. There are no arms that come out. I'll post a pic in a second.

To be perfectly honest... i wasn't trying to do anything with it. I was gonna throw it up in a trade post to see if I could get anything useful. I'm gonna use the smaller ring (40T) and took this one off for weight and it gives me a little more chain clearance (should I need it when I put my chain on) and since the "guard" is still there it works as a guard.

The point was that I won't try and get rid of the big ring if I'm going to have a hard time replacing it should I ever want to use the cranks for anything.

Im content with leaving the rings the way they are. (They'll act sort of like a chain guard)

The purpose of this post is to see if anyone knows anything about a 190BCD Chainring. Simply put... Im wondering if I should keep this ring around because it will be hard to replace. But I think from the replies... its a pretty "rare" item.

If it's a serious issue I'm sure you could actually just drill new holes into a Sugino ring or something.

btw I think that crank looks pretty cool. What'st the BCD of the middle ring?

that's not "vintage" it's just janky and old.

I wasn't saying vintage to sound cool. Its just old. Its what I have. Its what Im using.

The small chainring is a 40T and it appears to have a 115 BCD. 5 bolt as you can see.

Well use it till she dies, I suppose. Those are strange BCDs and it's probably not worth spending a lot on a new ring. 40t pairs with a 15t nicely anyhow.

Yeah, I've got a weird old SR with a similar BCD problem. Luckily I picked up another bike that just happened to have the same, strange BCD, but if I burn through these, I'm outta luck.

I don't think you'll have any luck replacing the outer ring, but who cares? Like you mentioned, the crank kinda acts like a chain/bash guard, so you can just run on the inner bolts and you're good. That's how my conversion is setup, and me likey. If you're a pack rat / insistent recycler like me, keep the ring in your parts bin. Actually, you should just keep it around for the "check this thing out" value, even if you never use it again. I mean, c'mon, 190??

your chainring is not conisdered vintage. but why throw it away? do chainrings really take that much space? and leave the spider the way it is. it looks kind of ghettofabulous.

Yeah the way the chainring is now is the way it will stay. I think I might make a clock out of the big ring. It seems so perfect for a "home improvement" project along those lines.

I have a 14,16,18 AND 20T and I think I'm going to be running the 40/14 to start. Trying to keep it all even, and I do alot of road racing so I don't think that ratio will bother me too much.
