thanks a lot

I don't know of any shops in brooklyn that are known for building wheels, but bikeworks in manhattan is pretty well regarded.

how about the cost?

Zack at Track star does a good job, as does Bike Works. In Brooklyn, I've gone to Alex at Bike Doc.

I think labor is pretty standard anywhere. $30 - $40

I got a set of Pauls to Deep V - Swiss DT for $550 cog and tires included at Bike Doc.

bike station is a good shop, people have said good things about his wheels to me.

If your going to buy all the parts, why not just lace them up yourself?

If your set on having them build them, then buy the spokes and rims through them.

It may not be as cheap, but at least your giving your money to a local shop / wheelbuilder.

soon, i'm getting a pair of wheels built by Arone, who used to work at bikeworks. great price and her builds have an amazing reputation. wheellove@gmail.com is her contact.

+eleventy billion on Arone.

Yoshi 11-19-07 02:54 PM

She builds her wheels with more than just hubs, spokes and rims. She builds them with love.

if i ever get a set of wheels built up i'm having arone done it. she has a remarkable reputation. ..unless i build them to destroy them. then i'll finally learn how to do it myself.

i actually had a hard time finding a retailer that has a good selection of rims AND spokes at decent prices.
if i find one i will try to lace them myself.
