fixed or ss full susser?
would it be possible to create a fixed or ss full suspension bike?
|
I think you would need a bike with no chain pull whatsoever. It would have to either be a unified rear triangle design, where the BB is mounted on the rear triangle, behind the pivot, or with a GT iDrive, where the pivot point is concentric to the BB.
|
Yeah, if the distance between the rear cog and BB changes at all, it won't work for fixed.
SS is do-able with a tensioner probably. Still, I'd feel a little uncomfortable. |
slingshot is gearing up to make single speed versions of their farmboy model I think.

The Kona Cowan DS can be set up as SS (and I presume fixed) as the main pivot surrounds the BB & the chainstay length doesn't change at all during suspension travel. Same for a couple of the Cove bikes (hooker?)
I know a bloke that used a XO derailler cage as tensioner on his SS Yeti ASR. |

The cove is the G-Spot, I have been meaning to take mine out as a ss for awhile now. Not as intended but I needed to rig my bighit up as a SS to get off a mountain once when I lost a pulley halfway down, it was definitely an interesting ride!

also, checked out that link, looks like he's using an eno hub, so it's probably not something they're going to market.

I really wonder how the last Mad Max bike would ride.
|
I would expect double drive to be a bad idea, seems like if it threw one chain the whole thing would kind of rip itself apart.
