Freehub spline damage?
Is there much chance of freehub spline damage from running single speed cogs with spacers? Also I'm new to SS and have a good idea what size I want now, but will certainly need to gear up as I get stronger.
I need to get a rear cog and Pricepoint.com has a nice wide based cog which would help spread out the force on the splines if damage is an issue. If I need to gear up later I can replace my ramped front chainring with a larger sized unramped one. On the other hand they also have much cheaper ones that would allow me to buy several different sizes and gear up without having to find or order a new chainring, but these are narrow and would concentrate to forces on the splines. Any opinions? |
If you have a steel freehub body you can use the narrow cogs fine. If the freehub body is aluminum, get the wide base cogs.
