Also, did the East Germans build bicycles? For some reason I think they'd do a good job. |

Ok that makes sense - I was talking about the frame only. The fork is another .7 kilos on top. Also, that green rekord is very pretty, imo.
And yes, the green thing is nice. I wish I could see the lugs and faceplate on that, and the decal. The fork is not my cup o'tea, though. I have a Soviet-era oscilloscope somewhere. That thing is both horrid and amazing at the same time. Some components are of excellent quality, others are total crap. All in all, a very charming little gadget. It works, too (with lax tolerances). |
There are a lot of hot Russian babes in here in Japan.

I have a Soviet pocketwatch, totally reliable and almost indestructible. I'd buy a Soviet bike if I ever found one.

And wroompops; my Soviet bike sleeps in Vallila and spends its days at the University, at Faculty of Social Sciences. |

They built Diamant bikes in DDR, in 'Karl Marx Stadt ' actually, and some track bikes too. These sometimes pop up in German Ebay but I've no idea whether they are that good.

Record frame - head badge & fork missing
Hi guys
I have just bought a Record frame (1985), gold series, SPORT model (cnopm) for sentimental reasons (cheers, Eskachig!) BUT, the head badge and original fork are missing... :( Can anyone help? cheers everybody keep it real! p |
Hey, necromancy! And congrats :) Post pics if you can, would love to see it. Sorry, no advice on the parts, best of luck.

I bought a Record very similar to the first one posted...got it for less than $200 shipped and I'm into it. There's sloppy welds that reinforce the lugs' seating into the tubes, no headbadge, and it's pretty chipped up. I dig it. The only thing that pissed me off was that it came in a potato box with holes in it and NO EXTRA PACKAGING. No bubblewrap or even newspaper. I'm really surprised the frame isn't dented. The headset bearings were in a dimebag taped to the seat tube around the USSR logo...you know the rest. So now I'm looking for some touch up paint. It's a 25mm seatpost, I'm going to grab a Thomson for it unless I can find something cheaper.

dude, that tubing is over 1mm thick.. you probably couldn't dent it if you tried !

5 pounds is about 2.5 Kg, which is how much most high-end framesets weigh. I was just looking at a 2006 Masi Grand Criterium frameset. Wieght: 5 pounds.

Good luck. Some Soviet frames had Soviet standard parts. If yours does it will be very hard to find replacements.

5lbs for a frame? No wonder it didn't dent, lead is a very tough material.

Soviet Frame
Maybe I am lucky but my frame is a standart mount.
BB: 30x70mm Headset: 1'' Seatpost: 1'' (got one jpr) rims axis : fr100mm rr120mm weith for a 580mm lenght frame (seat tube) : 2kg There are olympic rings painted on the seat tube, maybe that plays with international mounts. p |

With that bottom bracket there is a chance that it is an Italian frame that was repainted for a Soviet team. Rossin was a favorite during Soviet times.

So basically, I don't think there's really any problem with finding fitting parts for those frames. |
soviet rusty (not so much but still) frame
All the threads are normal.
I am just looking for a nice badge. Only the seattube was 25mm, I had to buy an old one (JPR). I found and bought a nice vintage chromed columbus Fausto Coppi Fork that fits perfectly (I hope, because haven't received yet) cheers p |
