Close enough.

That gorgeous fork alone sets it apart from the Cross-Check. Throw in the (more) sloping top tube, taller head tube (a good thing) different tubing (I think) and you have a frame that looks nothing like a Cross-Check. BTW, the Cross-check fork would look better if it had a curve instead of a bend, and/or putting that bend/curve closer to the dropouts, but that's for another thread.

In any event, it's stupid, and it kept me from buying one.
IMO, $289 plus roughly $100 (the cost of adding canti braze-ons to frame and fork) and you're golden. That's if you live in a city where framebuilders do their thing. If not, add the cost of shipping both ways. Still a cool mod, and not totally useless if you could get one more size tire under the bridge without fenders. And 32mm max is big enough for cantis, so long as they're not calling it a CX frame, which they're not. Even if it doesn't do a thing more than before, you'd have the frame you wanted. Too many people scoff at aesthetic alterations for no good reason. I considered the canti boss addition the minute I saw this thread, but JensonUSA doesn't have my size (53 Casseroll, 55-56cm on a regular frame), so I'll have to shell out $500+ for one of the new ones. At that price, no bosses will be added.

Greetings....

After reading this post, I ordered a 59cm Salsa Casseroll Frame from JensonUSA - the frame looks nice. But there is a problem - the derailleur side rear drop out is too narrow at the opening for a Ultegra hub axle to pass... It is not a paint issue - with the rear dropouts - one is good & one is too narrow. (I also tried a Sora hub/road wheel - same issue)

Now on hold with JensonUSA - 65 minutes and counting to talk with customer service to get an RMA...

Hope everyone else on this forum who order a frame fares better.

WOW, that's reasonably close to the frame I want! Generous clearance but no canti bosses, fender eyelets front and back, roadish geometry, ss/fixed capable, threadless straight fork... only I want Al and no RD mount.
Oh well, at least I still have an excuse to have a custom ti frame made someday.

/\ What he said.

Well more like sold to QBP then shop gets closed and QBP owns Salsa name. And puts it on any stupid thing they can. Not that the casserol is stupid it's just not "really" a Salsa.

Other shops could get in on that frame deal. One of my friends got one through my LBS at right around that price. QBP was selling them to anyone at the reduced price. I guess Jenson just cleaned them out. QBP regularly does this with discontinued colours. I got a wicked deal on a Cross Check because of this ...

I'm sorry, but this post deserves more credit.
