if you've got a bike with you, give a hollers as to when you'll be around and there'll be plenty of people to ride with.
i sincerely suggest staying well away from midtown this time of year though. you most certainly aren't the only one coming to NYC right now and the tourist mobs are just as bad as the business tie mobs.

The best shop within fifty miles of NYC is across the river called The Bike Stand in some podunk town in New Jersey. They've got some staff there that will knock your socks off.
Had some mechanical problems when I was there a few years ago and kept their business card for whenever I'm back in the area.

having grown up next to their i strongly agree, though it seems all their teenagers like to hangout in other towns starbucks parking lots and shoot girls i don't particularly like in the face with paintball guns. but i digress..
go to bedford ave and see the hipsters, in the park... hair so styled, clothes so dark... okay stopping now.

Buh buh brap.
When you coming in town?
Good food:
-Acme on Great Jones - Southun ****
-Bozu japanese on Grand St in Williamsburg - my gal and I'd favorite spot!
-Peter Lugers! For lunch! It's cheap and the OLDEST steakhouse in the country!
-Bon Chon
-Epstein's wings and burgers [and hot waitresses]
-El Sombrero for to-go margaritas...
Go to King Kog as well...

+1 Trackstar, thats a really cool shop. May as well check out Dave's Quality Meat while you're there, it's like 4 blocks away and they have some of the cool Trackstar/DQM Pista Concepts parked inside usually. You could go to King Kog if you feel like going all the way to Brooklyn.

so, because the bikeforums search sucks ass, and because the favorite bike shops are still the favorite bike shops and all the questions have been asked and answered already - you might need to spend an hour to weed through the results but you can try:
