Velocity Deep V's and brakes

Can you use a brake with Velocity Deep V's? It appears that the bike responsible for the "jack***** fgg bike of the day" thread is running such a setup, but nobody tore it up for that reason.

I like the way the rim's color goes all the way to the tire (no silver machined area for the brake pad), but wonder what repeated braking will do to the rim.

It's very simple.

Brake = machined.
No brake = nonmachined.

brake w/ non machined = it will wear in after a little while.

Brakes on non-machined rims work fine. The finish just wears off and looks like any old rim.

^ For me it's taking a looong time to wear off. An entire season of riding, and I can barely tell. No loss in braking power though.

Bikes: I have 2 of them,1 with fat tires & 1 with skinny tires & A Ninja 650

I’ve heard it makes some nasty noises & chips the powder coat off unevenly?
My rims are anodized un-machined no noise perfect line with the brake.

Well if it's powdercoated you might have some issues. Mine was anodized.

Ask yourself do you actually use your brake and if so, how much?

Many people, like myself, just have the brake as an cautionary safety measure and don't even really use it. At least I don't. In this kinda situation I don't really see much happening to non-machined rims.

Mine just happened to be because that's what my LBS had in stock. Machined rims cost more and had to be ordered in. It makes no difference. Brakes still work fine, no noises or chips and the anodizing rubs off slowly.

Don't worry about the fashion of the whole thing and just put a damn brake on your bike!

havent read all the posts yet, but you can run a brake if the rim is anodized, even if it is not machined. I have a set of velocity aeros I run like that--no probs
