I've used one, they're kind of cool, but the screen is smaller than it needs to be given the overall unit size, which is annoying. The keyboard is pushing the size limit, a 5'5" girl found it fine but my gorilla mits felt scrunched.

It's one of those things where it seems like a good concept, but then you go through the decision tree of how you would use it and it doesn't make sense. I guess if you had this, a monster external HDD for media, and a flat panel, mouse, and KB at home to plug it into it would kind of work, but that's kind of kludgy and it would probably run slow. Much less cool but probably way more useful would be just having a cheap regular desktop and something like an ipaq with a full size folding keyboard.

But that's my point -- this thing seems crippled for productivity, so I can't understand the price tag and the size. If I want an ultraportable wireless device, I'll get a handheld. Hey, if it fits someone's needs, great, but I can't see carrying around something that size when it does so little.

Supposedly Apple has been working on the solid state Mac for a while now...the original iPod nano was their first release with the technology. Hopefully they'll come out with a solid state MacBook soon.

I think the key to creating a successful mainstream microportable PC would be having all the features of a regular laptop shrunk down. People don't want to give up their desktop software.

"Crippled" is a pretty funny adjective, when you are comparing a fully functional PC to an actually crippled handheld web device.

EEE is awesome, though I'm a little disappointed in the price hike.

Solid state is no big deal since any manufacturer can just plug it into any product--no real design or bus change. It's a little short now at 32GB, so once it hits 64 or so and more factories are built, everything will have it and it'll be much cheaper. Remember how overpriced LCD's were? There was a shortage in manufacturing capacity as there is with flash memory now, so it just took a while to build a zillion LCD factories in Asia. I think the Yangzte was noticeably more polluted from that. Anyway.

The Eee is indeed awesome. F*ck Apple. They would never allow a real opensource community for their overpriced pieces of consumer-wh0redom and are just inventing a new type of monopoly. Frankly, I prefer Microsoft's kind.

I bought one and just wanted to share. fits inside my messenger bag and doesn't take much space. It has wireless, a Linux OS and a functional keyboard. The touch pad sucks but whatever, its wicked cheap. more of a toy but for anyone who travels, only checks email or has the remnants of a desktop (monitor , usb keyboard and mouse at home) why not
I can only hope to acquire one day true hipsterness. Mac book pro, chrome messenger bag, tight pants, cycling cap, rare keirin bike..
